Drawbar pull
A friend's manual (copy) for his old Series Land Rover states:

"Maximum draw bar pull (according to surface conditions). 1,200-2,000 lb. (550 to 900 Kg.)

Is a figure for draw bar pull given for the latest Defender and, if so, how does it compare?

I suppose it was given for the Series Land Rovers as they were intended to be used around the farm etc, the newer versions seem to be a little less agricultural.

Drawback pull is probably the least useful statistic you can quote for any kind of vehicle since it has no practical meaning!

As far as I know all trad Landrovers (Defenders and leafers) have always been rated to tow 3.5 tons on overrun and 4 on coupled brakes, with very few exceptions. Modern ones do it more easily and it can be concluded that they have a greater db pull.

Towing weights have been done to death on the series 2 club - in a nutshell upto about 1978ish the max was 2 tons, then they were upgraded to 3.5 (4t with coupled brakes) and have remained so ever since. Check out a series IIA or III owners handbook for the figures. Nobody knows why there was the upgrade as there was little change in the specs... 2011 110 USW

1972 Series III 1-Ton Cherrypicker
1969 IIA 1-Ton
1966 IIA 88"

Does that figure relate to the load on the drawbar when pulling (instead of the payload)?
The trailer may weigh 3.5to, but it needs much less of that to move it forward.
But I could have missed the point, wouldn´t be the first time. Smile
