It's pretty unlikely, to be honest. Apart from the engineering challenge (the Puma engine is mounted very diferently from the TD5), I can't imagine that the ratios would be particularly suitable. Darren

Might be an idea to look at your box- I have driven loads of LT77, R380 and a few MT82 and must say that the 6 speed when a good one has been nicer than the other 2. Mine is slightly notchy into 2nd but no worse than a R380.. just got to take it easy and it slides straight in.
Have you re-mapped your truck? Reason I as is because with a re-map you tend to have a more usable power band and therefore don't have to change gear anywhere near as much. I doubt you will ever find a conversion back to the R380 because it is a step down (more likely to get a Td5-MT82 conversion). I don't think the TDCi would like the constant higher rpm either. Thanks, remap is not an option as far as I know in this part of the world, might be able to get a plug in chip, any ideas on that?

I really should start checking what cars people have.......... I am unaware of tunning options you would have with the 2.2 (I was thinking it would be easy with an ALIVE ATRIC but no reference to them being usable on the 2.2).
Might be an idea to send an email to either Gary at ALIVE or Pete at BellAutoServices to see if they can do anything remotely? I personally wouldn't ever fit one of those external 'power chip' boxes to any vehicle I owned.... just asking for problems. Other options would be gearbox additives- I have never done it myself but remember there was a thread a while ago about adding a ceramic coating additive which smoothed things out really well.... might be an option: I just quickly searched and found this one: http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic2139.html?highlight=additive Not too sure how available stuff like this is in Zimba though. Thanks guys, I will investigate the remap
Having said all that, the vehicle has done 30000Kms since new at beginning of 2012 and hasn't given me the slightest problem, so perhaps I should learn to live with it! |
