So fitting subwoofer today
![]() Have loosely laid all cables i cab and hooked them up and all works fine ... Is there an easy route to get to the back of the head unit space from underneath for the sub phonos and the system power on cable ? ... just to make things probably more complicated I have the AC unit fitted as its a 90 XS ![]() was going to run them alongside transmission under carpet - is just where do they go vertical and is it better to route on driver's side or passenger ? thanks J |

I took my radio out and the trim under the passenger parcel shelf and I ran mine under the carpet and with a coat hanger wire taped to the cables it was quite easy to grab them through the radio hole. Put trim back and all neat and tidy.

Across the seat box then along side transmition tunnel and then up behind the fuses, straight behind the radio

I've got mine drivers side under the mat hust next to the hand brake. Just providing the Amp power feed is kept generally away from the rest and there is no possibility of them being crushed then it doesn't matter where they go. If you need to tidy up lots of wires zip ties and electrical tape are your friends. Anything that needs protecting solid or split conduit. Solid offers better protection but needs threading where as split doesn't. TheThunder Rollsπ¬π§πΊπΈ

Thanks folks ... went for a rummage around whilst waiting for replies and found the route above the fusebox and up behind the main loom - blimey there's not much space behind there now with a double-din and the LR>ISO loom plugs ... think there's no chance of fitting the Pioneer iPhone video cable in there too
![]() Still concerned the end of the DAB aerial doesn't click into place on the connector on the back of the head unit ![]() Tomorrows job is to tidy up the battery box and fix the new Blue Sea fuse box in place and then route the power/earth cables ... bit more dynamat on the seat box tops and covers and the fit it all back in place ![]() Jon |

Hi all,
If people put their amp on (or in) the front centre cubby box - where do they put their earths and how have they ensured a good connection? Thanks. |

You don't want to put a Sub inside a cubby it'll sound awful, if mounted in a cubby like mine with the correct internal volume it will be fine.
I have earthed mine on the bolts on the lip of the bulkhead, these gave a good earth and keep the earth lead relatively short. TheThunder Rollsπ¬π§πΊπΈ β½οΈπ’οΈβοΈπ§°πͺ |

Many thanks all, earthed mine on the bolts on the lip of the bulkhead as well (gave it a bit of a rub down to get a good contact), all seems to work fine.
Good weekend's work; fitted a 8" sub + 6x9s + new front 4" coxails + head unit in my double cab - sounds much better (only had original Land Rover front speakers on Friday and a naff radio). |

Good job, you just want Dynamat now if you haven't got it already?

Look all good Defenders, I have occasional times when I find a fair bit of moisture under my carpets. At the moment I pull them out occasionally and let things dry off - so I was wondering whether Dynamat would start trapping water against the metal, but then you can't take it out so easily?
I haven't fitted it at the moment because I wanted to be able to dry the car out easily. Any thoughts? |

If it's fitted dry and clean and all joints sealed it should be fine, depends if the ingress is coming up through or from the top. If from the top it should be fine, from the bottom may pose a bit more of a problem. TheThunder Rollsπ¬π§πΊπΈ

Dynamat will be fine if applied correctly, its waterproof. I tapped all the joints with foil tape so all the water sits on top. Closed cell insulation will work the same, Its only when you add open cell such as noise killer that moisture will be absorbed and retained.

Just weighing up all the various options for upgrading my head unit. Think I'm going down the Dynamat route first and probably simple speaker upgrade then worry about a decent stereo once I have a fair chance of hearing it!
