Central locking problem
Hi,

Ive searched the forum for a post with the same problem but can't find one. Its a bit of an odd one as far as I can tell.

I use the central locking to unlock the defender every morning and about 1 in 50 times it doesnt work. I press the button, the central locking works, all the locks come up but when i try to open the door I cant. This has happened intermitently with the driver door and the driver side rear passenger door.

The workaround is to just go in through one of the other doors that decide they will let me in Smile

The weird part is the lock comes up but I cant open it, is this a simple case of a sticking lock mechanism? A bit of WD40 or alike to sort it? I've not tried anything yet as I havent had time so thought I might as well ask here first while I'm at work Whistle

Probably a sticking mech. The grease goes hard as the weather gets colder so I found the best way was to strip the mech out and clean it up thoroughly then wd40 instead and reapply wd a couple times a year

I had a similar problem with my rear door that would rarely unlock just gave it a good spray with WD40 from everywhere i could get it in been o.k for a year or more now.
As mentioned previously it seems the grease thickens in the cold. 2005 Td5 90 XS
