Technically any part that is not LR made is a modification or non standard items. That would pretty much make all of us the same. I don't see the point personally nearly all parts are actually better hence why we fit them. I think there must only be around 1 in 10 LR's that are so called non modified. TheThunder Rollsπ¬π§πΊπΈ

It's quite a simple question....
1. Have you enhanced the vehicles performance from when it rolled off the production line? No if you replaced the suspension and brakes for the similar type. 2. Have you replaced the parts on a like for like basis? yes if you replaced the suspension and brakes for the similar type. Russell 2011MY 110 XS USW Black |

Thanks I kind of thought the same but don't want to fall foul of the insurers who would in the event of a claim be just as inclined to refuse it on the basis that some original parts have been replaced.
A couple of new shockers / springs might not be noticed but a shiny new chassis is hard to miss ![]() The old Compare the Meerkat modification section had the usual stuff for boy / girl racers about wings spoilers skirts etc, but I also noticed beside non standard paint jobs a bit about decals and stickers!!! As you say most of the work we do to our vehicles is to protect them i.e. steering guards but this could be construed as an intention to lash your landy about the countryside in an irresponsible manner. ![]() DRW I built a garage for my Mini With a place for everything and everthing in its place. These days I would tell the insurance show them receipts etc and ask for an agreed valuation .

Tell them. A galv chassis alters the risk since it increases the value of the vehicle, can affect repair costs, and may also make it more attractive to thieves.

When declaring a remap (performance improvement), are there levels, or would you advise them what the theoretical raised figures are? Yep Galv Chassis is a modification. Apparently (according to my insurers) the galvanised steel is thicker (which it is by 1mm) than standard, and therefore stronger. A structural modification as they called it

The question is once declared do they A. Refuse to offer you the policy or B. Not understand what your talking about or C. Charge you even more. TheThunder Rollsπ¬π§πΊπΈ

I suspect a variation of all three but probably the last option, they'll view this as an opportunity to pillage my wallet cos I 've spent cash improving my wheels.
![]() Better to declare it now than to risk the alternative. How bad can it be? DRW I built a garage for my Mini With a place for everything and everthing in its place. Ten years down the line there's a Mini in there somewhere, and ![]() |

My guess will be it'll be difficult to get someone to offer a policy. When they don't understand what your stating which most likely they won't you'll probably get "unfortunately we cannot offer insurance to you at this time, Sir"
If it's a single thing perhaps there will be less issue but multiple the more they will probably play up. What gets me is do they really think people will fit inferior parts? I guess they do because a minority perhaps... There used to be an adage at one time that I'd you were part of a club you may get a discount as you'd be viewed as having a good interest in your vehicle thus keeping it in great condition. That seems to be non existent pretty much. Then there is extra security, you'd think they'd like that wouldn't you? IMO not that fussed at all really if it's standard security spec or you've got £1000's of extra security layers fitted. TheThunder Rollsπ¬π§πΊπΈ β½οΈπ’οΈβοΈπ§°πͺ |
