Which mating surfaces?
Between the Cylinder and the housing, Not to my memory. Between the Housing and the Footwell, Yes, it’s sort of H Shaped from memory. Did you clean everything before reassembly? If it’s a new unit and its still leaking I'd suspect it’s a duff unit. I changed mine a few weeks back and its dry as a bone so can’t reason why it's still leaking. If it’s new - it shouldn’t leak. |

There should be a gasket (or metal shim) between the clutch master cylinder and the bracket but even if this is missing it would not cause the leak of fluid that you describe. This can only happen if your master cylinder itself is fubared! If it has only recently been replaced then poor quality pattern parts can sometimes leak within a very short space of time after being fitted. If cylinder is original then it is showing that it is well past its best by date! Hope this helps! Donald

I put one of those in my 300TDi, even paid for the higher quality version at £20 instead of £10. It lasted about two months before leaking as bad as the old one. I had to buy my own replacement but sent back the duff one and after about 6 months got a refund on the price of the cylinder and the £48 I paid the local garage to fit it.
Not sure what you can do other than just keep sending them back! 2.2 90 XS 88" Series One Old Norton ![]() Minerva |

Has anyone got a diagram showing the component parts of the clutch master cylinder and the area it bolts onto under the box plates?
My Haynes Manual doesn't show what I need to see. DRW I built a garage for my Mini With a place for everything and everthing in its place. Ten years down the line there's a Mini in there somewhere, and ![]() |

The Haynes book of "suggestions" is really all it is....
Found this, http://www.landroverworkshop.com/diagrams/...es_53771#1 may be helpful however when it leaks, the bit that leaks is past any of the gaskets so I don’t think it’s much use looking for a gasket. As has been suggested, if it’s leaking I'd suspect it faulty and then remove and get a replacement. In my experience, this is one of those parts that is best left genuine or OME as cheaper or pattern ones just wear out so fast. |

I'm beginning to think it must be the gasket. I don't know for sure if it was replaced.
There was a leak before the replacement, there's still a leak now, ![]() Its been three weeks since it was changed, so if there was excess fluid from the change over then it should have dried up by now? Yes but the gasket is not in contact with clutch fluid so it has no reason to leak clutch fluid past.
The fluid leaks from where the piston rod goes through the rubber on the end of the cylinder. When it leaks- it means the cylinder is leaking into the rubber and the rod is allowing the fluid to leak into the footwell. |

FFS Is there no end to this misery.
Its the story of my life the fluid leaks past the rubber on your shaft and ends up all over your feet on the floor. ![]() I get my coat DRW I built a garage for my Mini With a place for everything and everthing in its place. Ten years down the line there's a Mini in there somewhere, and ![]() |

A quick way to end your misery is to get under the bonnet and remove the 6 screws holding the top plate onto the clutch bracket and have a look inside. You should be able to see the clutch rod and the rubber boot at the end of the cylinder. From there you should be able to see where the fluid is leaking from. Fluid leaking from the boot and onto the rod means the cylinder itself is knackered!
