Hi there, my names Mike looking for a straight 110 Td5 for around £10k
Now, I am not new to Land Rovers owning many discos in the past. Times come for a defender though! It's got to be done 
Tell me please for things to look for on a 110 Td5 chaps! Also, whilst I am not buying one for comfort  or MPG - how bad are they at everyday stuff, like de misting in the winter etc, leaking water  ? |

Easy. If not already, stick a heated screen in it - 30 second job.

Heated screen is great for demisting in the winter,They don,t all leak (just most of them). Heater is slow to warm up but OK when fully warmed just needs to be adjusted correctly. 2005 Td5 90 XS

Defender has lower gearing than a Disco so more revs for a given speed plus aerodynamics of a brick shipyard mean mid to late 20,s is realistic but will depend on what you use it for of course. 2005 Td5 90 XS

Yup, 30 is about right.
Please don't try to compare a Defender with anything normal - even a Disco. You will be buying a part of British motoring heritage, but the price you will pay is a degree of comfort and normality. It may leak, it won't race along a motorway quietly and smoothly while returning respectable MPG. It's not a car - its a vehicle. However, it will make you smile every time you get in it, you will get admiring glances from all sorts of people and you will wonder how you ever drove something normal and boring. Buy one - life is too short to wait. There are hundreds of enthusiasts on this forum alone to help you out with the inevitable questions and issues you may find. My 110 is my daily drive if I don't cycle
It's slow thirsty mid 20s lots of town and stop start traffic Takes ages to heat up in winter , but heater seems great once its warm Does leak water in but oddly does not leave a drip of any oil under it Oh and it cost me far more to look after than anything else I've had inc the 2a I learned to drive in But despite it all I love it and would not be with out it |

Check the rear chassis rails with a toffee hammer or similar, and look for corrosion on the crossmember.

Mine is unusually, almost dry inside.The heater is a bit feeble but a cloth will dry the windows in minutes (just don't leave the damp/wet cloth in the cab), as for mpg I average 27, I don't drive remotely fast and I only do 50 on the motorway. You after a hardtop (van) or station wagon??

Station wagon,would even consider a 90SW if it was the right car. It's for dogs and getting me to work (20 miles a day).

Another recommendation for 110 linked above. A good straight well maintained TD5 110
Defenders are great for dogs, although now that one of labs is approaching 10 he's getting lazy and is not as keen to jump back in after a long walk as he is at the start. Cheers Steve |
