Today I received the new injector harness. Thanks Simon!
Replacement of the harness was quite simple. No problems at all. The female connetor to the harness was full of oil so I was convinced that we found the promblem. A vast amount cleaning spray was used to wash away the oil. In spite of the amount of oil at the harness plug by the engine I have not seen any oil at the ECU plug. But it got a dose of spray anyhow. The engine started fine and I let it warm up while I fitted engine covers etc. Then I fully depressed the accelartor. And the engine dies. Same as Before. No differance at all. I give up... Hans |

Yes, you are probably right. And the harness and crank sensor also needed replacement so it was not in vain.
I have tried to borrow an ECU from members of the Swedish LR Club but so far no luck. How much is a new one in UK? Hans |

Good luck Hans.
Wiser people than me might be along soon, but i don't know if it's plug and play. It might be worth checking if it needs synchronising with the immobiliser or if there are any other matters to consider. The codes stamped on your injectors might need entering into the ECU for best performance (using a Nanocom or similar) but it's not essential. Pretty good price though! From what I understand the ECU needs to be syncronised with the injectors. One guy from the Swedish LR Club will help me with that as I do not have the knowledge nor the equipment.
Besides the ECU I also bought from the same guy a fuel pump, throttle assy and MAF sensor. Might come in handy... And thank you Simon for the lead! Any progress with your Defender? Hans |

I have got a 90 TD5 on my books with one of these (amongst many other) faults, but it doesn't lead to the problem that Hans is seeing. The thing has been running around for the last 3 years on 4 cylinders (No.5 injector has failed in some way, but I have not been "allowed" to fix it , as it runs just fine for the owner!!!) but still has the grunt to climb up to 4000rpm under load without cutting out. Because the injector is failed in a "closed" state, no fuel is dribbled to that cylinder, so free-accel smoke numbers for the MoT are just fine. Roads? Where we're going, we don't need roads. |

It has spent the last few weeks in the hands of IRB Developments and is now there awaiting the arrival of a man with an oscilloscope! 2003 Td5 110 Hardtop Now a 2013 110 USW too. |

Waiting for the ECU (and other parts) to arrive from UK I changed the fuel filter. The old filter did not contain any signs of water or any other contamination. New filter fitted and started fine. Let it idle for a while to get rid of any air. Gave it full throttle and it died immediately. Same as before.

Now she runs well again!
Tonight the guy from the Swedish LR Club came around to sychronise the new ECU. Everything went quite well and now the engine runs well again. He took the old ECU with him to see if it is repairable. A big thanks to Simon and all the rest of you who have been so helpful in order to get my Defender to run again! Regards/Hans |
