2011 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 DCPU Stornoway Grey

Roof Mounted Spots

I'm trying to find some suitable spots to go on the front of my roofrack. I'd ideally like some smallish (more discreet - guessing approx 100-120mm across), oval/rectangular spots, not chrome, but am having trouble finding anything I like the look of, let alone being able to actually see if they'd be OK for mounting up there, etc....

Any ideas/tips for what I should look out for, etc, etc

Ive got Roo 140s, very pleased with the light they kick out.....even though they are not wired up yet on this puma

Been doing a lot of looking around, and think these look good....what do we think?:

What's everyone's opinion, a pair of them, or a set of 4 for the front of my roof rack.....thinking they should come on with high beam, too.....what do you reckon?

They're illegal for use on a public road.
Officially it's not allowed to be able to switch them from the driver's seat.

Obviously they need to be isolated for public road use and switched on independantly off-road when/if needed. Would suggest you have a look at this switch that I sourced for my Lightforces....

The driving light switch is part no YUG 000540LNF and can be purchased from www.britishparts.co.uk or your local dealers. The switch cover depicts a little lamp with a number 2 in it (not poo by the way)

and fits in to a standard dashboard switch position so there's no need for butchery to fit it! The switch is also illuminated and has a red led in it that illuminates when the system it is supplying is swtched on! Hope this helps.

Cheers Malc, I've already used that 'no 2' switch to operate my rear mounted worklight, as I wanted to be able to use it regularly, for additional reverse light, as well as a worklight, so wanted it accessible and factory looking.....unless there's a switch with a 'no 3' on it

The isolator switch I use for my existing spots is discreetly fitted elsewhere. Was thinking I would mount a second switch next to this for the roof mounted lights, so they could also be isolated.

......also, whats the general feeling....a pair of spots, one fitted at each of the end mountings on my roof rack, or a set of 4, one for each of the mountings up there? Think I'm edging towards just 2 of them to start with, one at each side....if i switch/fuse/cable it corrrectly, I can always add a second pair later if I want to....

Yes but make sure you use the correct amp rated wire/cable.

eg:

2 x 55 watt = 110 div by 12 volt = a minimum of 9.17 amp rated wire.
4 x 55 watt = 220 div by 12 volt = a minimum of 18.34 amp rated wire.

I had four on the roof rack and used two looms with 17.5 amp rated wire. This was so if I wanted I could uprate the bulbs to 100w.

The main beam circuit has the required warning light to show they are on and switched not to dazzel.

FOG lights cannot be used any higher than the bumper - these are the only lights that carry this legal height and position stipulation.

So you are free to fit and use driving lights on the roof! (which as to be good

Nice one- they're the driving light version that I'm looking at anyway

Anyone on here have any exp/pics of a defender with roof spots, but (being fussy) - the Hella ff50's?
