As a matter of fact I looked for it today. Is it sitting at the back of the engine, right side, rather high up? I will do some cleaning during the weekend Hans |

Took out the crank sensor today. Not so easy to get at. It was very dirty and the end looked to be damaged. Also the O-ring was missing. I cleaned it up and put it back (without O-ring). And I was convinced that this would solve the problem. Tried the engine again and the problem was still the same. Identical as before. So I guess the crank sensor was not the reason. Do you think that I should order a new sensor or is it enough with a new O-ring? Sent before and after pictures to Andy as I can not upload. Hans |

I gather that the crank sensor is the only part that really must work. The ECU can fill in values for everything else if it has to.
It is also very position-sensitive. LR sell shims to overcome the problem a batch of TD5s had where the sensor was fractionally too far in causing mis-timing problems. That said, it is working, at least up to 2,500rpm. I'd get a new o-ring to stop more dirt coming in and maybe seat it more accurately, but it's hard to see how this is the root of the problem. Unless the end really is damaged...... 2003 Td5 110 Hardtop Now a 2013 110 USW too. |

Try unplugging the 2 solenoids on the inner wing near the throttle valve.

Might also be worth getting the shim for the crank sensor as well.
After 11 years my TD5 started missing/losing power between 2500 and 2600 rpm for some reason. The indie working on it fitted the shim and the missing stopped and it now drives very smoothly. Agree it probably is not the root cause but would be well worth doing to see what difference it makes. Any chance of a picture of the end of the sensor to see the extent of the damage ? I will try that tomorrow. What do these solenoids do? What will happen when I disconnect them? Please bear in mind that I just had this vehicle for a couple of months and are quite unfamiliar with it. Hans |

Do you happen to know the part No of the shim and the O-ring? I can not upload any pictures so I have mailed to Andy. I can mail to you as well if you send me your email. Hans |

Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge I would change this for a new one, main dealer only, and order a spacer to go with it. My thinking about the cps was that as the engine spun faster that it may cause a confused signal, so engine cuts out. I would think many other faults would put engine into limp mode or tick over, but I know cps is one of the few items that will stop a Td5. Andy |

I agree Andy, that does not look healthy. Looks like one side has been ground down.
A new sensor and spacer would be a good place to start. Bob 2015 Jaguar XE240 R Sport - goes like ....... !! 2013 Defender 90 CSW - sold 2009 Defender 110 Double Cab - sold 2001 TD5 90 CSW - offroad project - sold to a forum member 2011 Porsche Boxster - for the sunny days ! |

It must be hitting on the flywheel to do that damage.
