Daniele, good you clarified that. Just by posting those pics without any background comments and taken from another forum, we might get wrong footed. Glad those are not yours.
But I think you said that you had corrosion problems with you EVOs already after 2 months, and hence you applied the silicone grease between rings and lamps. Correct? And if so, any idea what happened, was it just friction as mentioned by someone, or was it because you had damaged the paint during installation, or....?

In any case, I have bought a tube of silicone grease already, and I have ordered the black powder coated SS rings from Naka to replace my unpainted SS rings. Sofar that seem the two things I have seen on the forum here about possible actions to help avoid the problem from happening, if it has not happened already which I still have to find out.

In this instance wouldn't a thin gasket be a better solution, especially in something like a thin rubber - easy to make by utilising the bezel as the template.

Thank you Eric

Yes I put the grease after my check.

The problem is the difference of elettropotential between the two metals type. This is the reason that it is necessarymto put same grease or "anti zeit paste" on the defender stainless steel body screws (doors, rear door, bonnet hinges and so on)

The effects of dissimilar metal corrosion are well known in certain industrial quarters. Placing two different metals together in a damp environment without protection and you effectively produce your very own mini electrolytic battery. I too bought a set of JWS and the stainless steel rings supplied were a ba5t4rd to fit? fit them I did and having realised I had compromised the paint integrity of the lights I sealed the rings FRONT and BACK with a marine grade sealant I also sealed the base of the connectors where the terminals may still be exposed?. On my recent inter cooler swap out where the lights had to be removed there was no corrosion.
Time and preparation are the main keys here if you do not want corrosion or moisture ingress issues? They are an excellent product and well documented and tested. To all those 'holding off" purchasing "if the simple application of a little sealant or realising the potential issues of dissimilar metal corrosion is beyond you don't buy a set of JWS then?' Doubt if you'll browbeat them into changing what is an excellent proven product due to the fitting of unapproved stainless rings?

Aluminium ring would not be strong enough and too costly to make! Thumbs Up If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Hi Tim

Thank you for your input

So that is now somewhat different to what you have repeatedly said before then ??

Or a few weeks ago maybe ??

As well as corrosion around where the bezel ring sit, these 10 month old ?? ones also have the coating lifting and peeled away due to corrosion further up the body of the lamp, well away from direct contact with the bezels,,, Will try and get some decent picture of the one I have here, when I get a chance later this week ? California F1, 75th 110 "Kermit", 50th Ann V8, 90 V8 Hybrid, 55 Series 1

I am fastidious with everything I fit to my Defender as the 'rot rate' certainly does not need my assistance to accelerate it! This has included fitting butyl gaskets to my swing-away wheel carrier, sealing heads of bolts with plastic caps full of sealant, applying heat shrink to bolt shafts to insulate them from the surrounding metal. Invariably anything I purchase or fit always at the forefront of my mind is 'how can I fit it better?' Mine is certainly not a working Defender it was never intended as such. Maybe by using the same principle perhaps those concerned about JWS quality needn't worry. With the minimum of extra effort you can buy and fit what you want without worry or concern about degradation as the vehicle will be gone before your extras. Rot is a constant battle, it's like cancer, once it's there it can be damn hard to get rid of! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

I feel quite lucky now. I'll never be in the position to be able to afford these LED lights, or any make in fact.
But I don't see why when people pay best part of 1K for a set that they then have to go through the process of fitting gaskets, rubber seals and mastic to prevent their investment from deteriorating in such a short time frame.
This doesn't just apply to lights. It goes for all accessories. They should be able to fit and forget. Not have to unbolt them to ensure they aren't degrading.

but then on reflection over the last 5 yrs or so there has been a distinct change in the sort of person that owns Defenders. When I first entered the Defender family it was all about offroading and competing. Everything that was purchased had a function and was thought out. Now it seems to be a new group that bolt bling and tat to their Defenders. I'm not saying its a bad thing but people try to make the Defender, which is a working vehicle into a family run around which it isn't. 110 D250 SE HT

Mal, not sure about the logic of your above statement. Take a look at the first 4 items and the 9th item on this one and the same supplier page. I would like to know how one can see that these SS rings are "unapproved".
