TJ, would be good if you would clarify why you ask such cloudy question. Once installed, there is no real reason to take them off again, don't think anyone would think of doing that just to see how the back of them may be gathering dust.... Especially since most of us at the same time will have replaced the original rustprone bezels by SS version, so all should be ok, no? You seem to indicate that that is not necessarily so, would be good if you would tell us why. Tks, Eric You never actually own a Defender. Slightly off topic and maybe a stupid question. Can LHD 8700's be changed to RHD without buying new lights? I think I remember reading somewhere that they could, but can't find the article now. Like I said, probably a stupid question.

the beam on the lights is so sharp, you could probably get away with either anywhere |

Correct nicholas2012 Well done for being spot on Eric,, Not meant as a "cloudy" question, just waiting a response to see if anyone else has the same issue without preempting the response? Have a pair here that have quite a bit of alloy corrosion under the black coating,, plus around the rings, and looks to have reacted with the stainless bezels These units, i am told are only 10 months old, and i would say in poor condition for expensive headlamps, in such short a time ? As you say, most people fit and forget them ? Maybe it needs it own thread, rather than being lost in this one ? I will ask the moderators to look at this thread and deal with as necessary - I do not feel it relevant that a grievance with a second hand purchase un related to Mobile Centre needs to be aired in public in our sponsors forum when the issue is with another forum member and not us.

TJ, are you referring to corrosion on the back of the first 8700 version, or of the later 8700 EVO version?
Apparently the EVO version has a different new rear side. To take a glance myself, it is pretty cumbersome with my SVX front to first take off the A-bar, then the entire SVX front grill set up, before you can access the lamps, so would hope some others with easier access will check and report... Tim, think it actually is a pretty relevant remark made by TJ. In my opinion it is also not really relevant if the light was purchased from Mobile Centre or not (TJ was not even referring to that in any way), it is about the product integrity here. If there would be widespread corrosion problems with one or more versions of these expensive Speakers, it is good that TJ is bringing this up now. Looking forward to more comments, hopefully it is not a widespread issue. Eric You never actually own a Defender. As per all the various emails when you brought me into your private dispute the lamps function perfectly. They are of the original design with glass lens and powder coated die cast which was changed to a plastic lens and passivated finish. As per my first email when you brought me into your dispute on 29th July Mobile Centre will honour the remaining warranty on behalf of J W Speaker which expires 18/08/16 if corrosion affects the operation of the lamp subject to normal criteria we will exchange the lamp for a new one. |

Passivation finish is not sufficient with stainlees steel ring. It make a lot of oxidation.
Good solution is put silicon grease on the internal side of the ring. Discovery 5 td6 HSE Stornoway Gray Outback Engineering Limited Edition IID Pro MV License |
