As Johnny said, loose in its holder.

Yon can close the contacts in the holder with needle nose pliers, I would suggest disconnecting the battery first though.

Thanks for your suggestions. I will check the relays tomorrow. Do you know which one is for the fuel pump?

The tps is all part of the accelerator pedal. It all comes out as one unit, which is held in with two bolts through the bulkhead.

I think your problem is either the tps has failed, or the cables to it are at fault. The normal thing now to do is buy new tps, about £100, then still get the problem, due to Sod's law, then run new cables direct from ECU to pedal. But hopefully for you, the new pedal assembly will solve your problem. Shame you are not local as I have pedal assembly here, can't think why Whistle Whistle Whistle

If it was a relay, I don't think it would put the warning light on.

Probably Andy, the best solution would be to invite you and the TPS over to Sweden to fix this problem. I will have a look at tomorrow together with some other suggestions that came from the Swedish LR forum. They belive that a faulty TPS will only give you idling speed and are more inclined to belive in insufficient power to the fuel pump at the tank. I will take Another look tomorrow to see if I can find anything obvious.

Best regards,

Hans

It does,nt sound like the normal symptoms for a MAF failure but it would be worth unplugging it and going for a short drive to try it.
When you unplug the MAF the ecu runs a default setting which will run the engine OK but not at its best. 2005 Td5 90 XS

Did some additional checks today.

- Checked the fuel pump relay - it ticks when ignition is on.

- To be on the safe side I replaced the two yellow relays as they are identical - made no difference.

- Tried to locate the wires from the TPS but as far as I could tell they disapperd into the dashboard.

- Spent the rest of the day looking for damaged wires - could not find any...

- I have still not tested driving with the MAF diconnected.

However, what I found was a white connector and a cable with two wires dangling down from the left side of the gearbox. This was odd as I have not seen it before and it was easy to spot as it was hanging below the chassis frame. But I was unable to find out where it was supposed to go. It comes out from the rear main harness (that goes to the ECU box) at the left of the gearbox. The loose cable has two wires inside - one black and one White with purple stripe.

Do you know where this cable is supposed to go and do you think it has something to do with my problem?

Best regards,

Hans

Will start with a disclaimer. I've been to the pub, and this may effect my response.

I have looked through the wiring diagrams for you, and you will be pleased to hear that there are two white with puple traces, one to the tps, and the other from relay to fuel pump. Great, just what we did not want........

The one to the tps leaves the ECM as a single cable but then splits to two wires going to your tps.

The one to the fuel pump one goes direct from fuel pump relay to fuel pump.

Looking at it a different way, there are two connections to the transfer box, in this area, one for high/low, and the other for diff lock in/out, can't think of any others, apart from wires to rear of gbox for speedo, all these items connected?

When you turn on your ignition pump the accelerator 5 times, this will put the fuel pump, in purge mode, and you should be able to hear it doing its thing..

The wires go from the tps up to behind the instrument binnacle, then through the bulkhead with many many othe wires. When I rewired my tps I did all the joins behind the binnacle to keep them as high as poss.

But as mentioned before, a faulty tps will put warning light on, and put engine in tickover only, not stop engine running.

If you want the wiring diagrams let me know your email addy and I will send over (as my head hurts now Whistle )

Having looked at the photo, the wire looks like it would be one of the ones king to the transfer box, either for high/low, or for difflock in or out, but think it will be the high/low switch. But both go down the side of the tbox.

But according to the wiring diagram it should be black and a white with black trace for the high/low switch, which is correct on mine.

I am unable to find a suitable home forthe loose wire, Connectors on the transfer box are occupied.

If you look at the picture it seems that the wire has been folded up. you can clearly see the folds on the protective plastic hose. But it would be nice to get this confirmed.

I also did the purging of the fuel system:

- Switched on the ignition and pressed the throttle 5 times.

- The yellow engine light starts flashing and the pump is humming for 30 sec.

- After 5 sec the humming continues again for 30 sec.

- This continue for a couple of minutes and then the engine light goes out and the pump stops humming.

Is this how it should work? Made no differance as the engine still dies at fast throttle application.

During todays test I also noted that when you release the throttle the engine makes a "rumble" at 900 rpm just before idling. I have not noticed this before.

Also if I release the throttle suddenly from 2500 rpm the engine light comes on and the engine dies.

Based on a suggestion from a Swedish LR forum I also checked all hoses in the air inlet system to ensure the these did not collapse or delaminated. I could not find any problems.

I could think of better ways to spend a Saturday...

Best regards, Hans
