If I am seeing it correctly the ladder side is in the last picture, my Brownchurt
ch rack has a box section ladder as opposed to the flat metal type seen here |

Thanks for the photos that makes it very clear
Have you only put ball bearings in one half of the hinge plate bolts? |

Yep - there's a ladder at the rear: Click image to enlarge ...and one at the side now too! Click image to enlarge Be warned though, this rack makes fitting of a roof tent a bit of a pain - need to get some spacer blocks machined up to be happy with the clamping arrangement. |

I would have thought the ladder would bolt onto where the grab handle used to go on the crossemember, seems a very small attachment using the tub tab? Plus it would be rest on the body right? I wonder if they do a slightly deeper ladder. 2011 110 USW

Looks a great set up!
I've had a brownchruch rack for about 20yrs now and its on its 3rd defender. fab bit of kit ! The rack still looks very good, however the trianguar gutter supports do rust after about 5 yrs and need changing - but it's only about £25 to change the lot and it is an simple face lift to the vehicle. Its a classic proven design, simple material, and you can carry just about anything on it ! Most ladders use this position for their lower mounting. Darren 110 USW BUILD THREAD - EXPEDITION TRAILER - 200tdi 90 BUILD THREAD - SANKEY TRAILER - IG@landroveranorak "You came in that thing? You're braver than I thought!" - Princess Leia |

Thanks asdeybear! Just finished getting the Foxwing fitted but that's it now in terms of exterior 'extras'. Don't need anything else (except perhaps some lighting for camping) so won't be bolting more stuff on for the sake of it! Need to focus on thr interior next - soundproofing in the rear, lockable storage drawer, split charge & fridge are next on the list... The wife seems happy with the new setup which is what really matters of course! Click image to enlarge |
