Maybe I keep on shooting on a topic thatīs already dead ? Then please ignore.

I look a little into adding a pre-filter. Point is .. no, correct, if youīre stubborn like me and think thereīs a point, then: (Mann&Hummel have a nice 6min video about diesel fuel filtration) the Pumaīs fuel pump in the tank blends the fuel and water when if pumps it into the fuel line. If you have a pre-filter between this pump and the tank, the water droplets would be bigger and easier to separate in the filter cartridge -this setup would be better, additionally the fuel pump is spared from debris and can live longer. Anyway, hydrophobic filter mats in the catridge help to do so (separating the water from the fuel).
The catalogue of filters and prefilters from Mann&Hummel generally puts the setup with prefilter and main filter to the context of agricult.engines or earth movers etc.. But if itīs good for them ... Smile
A different company (Mahle) makes an elect. sensor for such vehicles which operates a drain valce automatically if enough water has collected. The draining water is filtered and then let into the environment until the sensor notices water level is down to the desired minimun and then the drain valve automatically closes. I am impressed as they seem to be sure that their sensor is reliable. While LR removed the sensors from the newer vehicles again.
In a nutshell - a prefilter appers to me as the best solution. Makes and models already are in this/related threads. But adding one obviously is more complex than just adding a water collector bowl to a standard filter - so one would need good arguments to justify effort and costs.

To round out the "care" for the original main filter, the Stanadyne elect.water sensor is made for use with the sedimentor bowl. Attaching it is pretty easy, therefore I dare to mention it.

good luck with fitting it as it is good extra warning system and I am sure much better than a OEM landrover one than gave problems!!! ,as you know I am one of the converted and have a Racor 230r fitted on my Puma which has saved me form serious water damage but I was interested to see some of the comments I got that implied I was stupid to fit it but all I can say is that it worked well for me!!!

Just seen this thread, looks like the drawing I supplied for the mounting plate is incorrect Embarassed My apologies! The lower left hand hole should be higher than shown on the drawing.

Cheers,

Tim

Edit: I have updated the drawings, sorry for any inconvenience this has caused!

2008 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 SW Bonatti Grey
Good day all

Im not a frequent visitor to this site,as im more outdoors than in.....

I am having trouble with my 08 Puma SW. It occurs on irregular intervals. We drive her everyday into town and back(80km round trip). Lately she seems to "splutter" on uphills mainly but also on the straight. To the point were she will only move forward at a snails pace, with the accelarator depressed all the way,but revs only to about 1500... I have changed the fuel filter, with little improvement. She then went into the stealers to check on some other minnor issues. I informed them to check up on the "spluttering" problem. They mentioned that the EGR valve "might" have a problem....After a argument over another issue, the valve was not replaced.......but HELL...THE problem seemed to disapear......Well,a couple months down the line(this day) I am having the same issues. I have now reverted to stopping her when this happens, then slowly picking up the revs(with her still spluttering) until there is a huge bunch of black smoke at the back. I do this a couple of times upto 4000rpm until she runs smooth(maby after a minute or so). Then for the rest of the trip-no probs.

The next day,no problems on start up,drive 20km to town, and hit some uphill, and then the trouble starts.....Back to my idling/revving exercise, and then all fine......

PLEASE ADVISE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi,

and - sorry - for me speaking: no.

I remember vaguely that it was pretty easy to use some already-there-bracket as a template to dril the one hole in question. You will have no problem this way.
Alternatively you could use the picture above, print it, and then take measurements and re-scale from that.
But I guss, the template method is better.

How does the filter rest in the wheelarch after the G-L relocation kit is installed ?

īcause - the relocation plate thatīs in the austr.forumīs link looks like this:

Itīs straightforward to see what it does - i.e. nothing more than moving the fixing points up by 25mm.

and the G-L plate like this:

in this case I cannot quite understand which drilled holes go where on the Chassis.

The updated one at the beginning of the thread is the correct one. Please double check the measurements to your car before making anything though!

Cheers, Tim

looking at the kit in the picture

not sure the water is drained automatic , think you have to drain manually by loosening the drain knob

think it just tells you there is water in the filter
