I came back from Andorra in a 1989 90, took it steady on a mix of Mways and country (wine tour ) roads and did it to St Malo in a long day, so I wouldn't have thought Spain would be too much trouble in a couple of days (depending on where you are going) maybe less with two drivers.
I have done Portsmouth/Cherbourg to Barcelona in an ancient transit van a few years ago, stopover on the French border and Barcelona the next day. No great problem but its quite a long way so you have to be ready for it! A lot of the guys who go to Morocco have to drive all the way though Spain in what ever they want to play with when they get there - so a normal spec 90 should have no problem.
Brenden (Leeds) has posted some great info on his trips over the north of spain - well worth a read and very inspiring. A 90 is not too much of a problem for the front seat passengers - but may be a bit tight for those in the back! no matter what you do - it will be your adventure! go for it ! I've driven my 90 down to Venice & am driving down from Calais to Northern Spain later this year. I have got an overdrive & cruise control that makes it a little easier, go for it

The 90 hasn't been to Spain yet, just Germany.
It will be going to Spain someday when we get a spare bit of time. OK there are only the two of us but the only problem we had was lack of space for beer on the way home. Barbara |

If you want some ideas etc look HERE If you need any specific advice there is a Spanish Land Rover Forum. Yes local knowledge is best. Only problem is that the Spanish site is all in Spanish. I have driven from St Malo to Malaga a number of times, both in a Puma and TD5. Not being a frustrated long distance lorry driver I take it easy and stop overnight twice.

Not in a 90 but a 110 - ferry to Bilbao, arrived in the port at 5pm - I drove right through the night apart from 2 hours of shut-eye in the motorway services - had breakfast next morning just outside Gibraltar. One family in our group had a fully loaded 90, 2 adults and 2 teenage kids - drove right through France, Spain and Morocco! They had a fantastic adventure

I usually take an early train stopping for one night in the Biarritz area taking the peage network, then via Burgos, Madrid and Granada terminating just north of Malaga by the following afternoon at a consistent 120kph. Not the most comfortable car for it but certainly achievable without top much stress.

What 90 are we talking about? An early 2.5 diesel (Ninety) would be slow & hard work but still doable, a TD5 or Puma much more practical. How many people?
We have done a number of trips in our 90 TD5s, I used to have a contract in France for several weeks at a time & travelled from Glasgow, previously we went to Germany, Italy & Switzerland, last year we went to the Pyrenees and are about to head south again next month. A few years ago we shipped to California & lived out the back of the 90 for 3 months/6000 miles. Sometimes it is me myself but normally with my wife as well. The 2 main challenges for us in the 90 are space & fuel range, I get 300 miles between fill ups on a tank, 250 at motorway speeds, I normally have to fill up at least once before hitting the channel & this is a pain. I have been looking at a long range tank but my roll hoop chassis brackets interfere, looking at solutions. Packing the back is a skill, every trip we cut down our gear but still take far too much. it's all on-road ... should be good weather, therefore a nice trip. With more than 2 people in a 90, you can quickly run out of space, consider a roof box for additional storage or a small trailer. Like Leeds says, make sure you have enough room for wine/beer. Another option is to book a one way ferry to Santander and have a "mini cruise", either way.
The newer satnavs have all of Europe on them - I've just bought a Garmin Dezl760 with live traffic (free) All in all should be a great trip. |

Have a read of DaveW posts. Wing tanks which are a flow through system are available but need to check chassis number. The tanks might fit with certain roll cages. Depends on how your roll cage is fitted. Or you do what DaveW did and rearrange e rollcage support to rear chassis. Yes is doable Brendan |

as leeds says go to the spanish land rover forum www.clublandrovertt.org do not worry about the language at all just post your text in queens english and below just stick whatever google trastator give you, normally dont make any sense. however most of the people speak good english. If i can help with something let me know. I drive though France with my 110 and if you do not have any specific place to visit in France, i mean just highway driving It will make sense get the ferry to Santander or Bilbao. even considering the cost fuel tolls and hotels, ferry its cheaper, if you book it with enough time. Thanks Brendan, funnily enough I have just been looking at his blog as he has a similar roll cage support from P&P.
