2012 Defender 110 Puma 2.2 SW Keswick Green
2.2 Defender my 2CW
Hi all , Newbie to this forum. I live in Zimbabwe, have driven Landy's all my life. Aquired a 2.2 110 SW March 2012, imported from the UK , no DPF filter. This is my 2CW on this vehicle.

Firstly, has just had its 20,000 Km service.

There have been NO mechanical, ECU ,electrical issues on this vehicle,it has performed faultlessly and this has included 4 bush trips and towing a safari trailer.

What I like:

Looks good, looks really good. ( Keswick green , alloys etc etc)
Reliability 100% so far
Best cruising defender by far ( love that 6th gear)
Quiet
Marginally better air con than Td5
More comfortable seats
I like the new dash ( new to me ) .. doesn't rattle nearly as much on corrugated roads!
First defender I have had that doesn't leak on right foot ( yet)
Engine feels great, pulls better than Td5 and no turbo lag, plenty power for me and for our roads here. Even fully loaded and towing it is more than enough.
Fuel economy slightly better than Td5 but not as good as 300Tdi

What I am still getting used to:

Gearbox/clutch...notchy and clunky, takes a lot of gentle handling to change smoothly even in fairly normal driving situation.
ECU control of revs... why do we need rev matching when changing UP from 3rd to higher gears?
Anti stall..why? Why not have a manually adjustable situation ( like series 2 manual throttle?)
Sometimes feel I am fighting the ECU!

All in all...love it

Euuuuhhh, maybe ask Land Rover Customer Service,...... when they are back from "Out of Office" eventually Mr. Green Whistle You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Hi smurph, great post. Ive also had my 2.2 for a similar period and agree with most of your observations. I can also confirm no leak but as yet cannot comment on the air con. Still awaiting for that special summers day where i need to press the button. Big Cry

Have seen a number of comments through the forums on the ECU and what is perceived as weird throttle manipulation. My take on it is that this is just anti-pollution measures. Not any half clever attempt at rev matching or bugs in the ECU.

My understanding is that some emission control requirements insist that the throttle on pretty much any vehicle must be stopped from making a mad dash to fully closed at any point in the vehicle's operation. This is why when you hit the clutch and take your foot off the throttle (for up or down shifts or any other reason) the revs hang high and wash off slowly. Proud new owner of a 2013 DCPU (SALLDHSR7DJxxxxxx) - "Manny" (from "Ice Age")

...it's there somewhere... Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...
