Turbo studs breaking and turbo noise
Recently my turbo started making a cavitating (sp?) type sound, similar to the old audi quatro rally cars when changing gears and seems to be worse once very warm. It also seems to happen more when on a bumpy road.

So i climbed under neath her and saw that one of the turbo studs is missing. I have a decat pipe fitted and initially when i fitted it i was concerned that it did not have any brackets like the standard exhaust has and was assured by the manufacturer that many people have used them successfully like that.
Am I correct to be concerned?

Have there been many instances where these studs on puma's have broken and what is the cause?

I am assuming that this is the cause of the cavitating (sp?) noise if i am totally wrong what could be causing this noise.

(I am running standard tuning and larger intercooler)

I have had lots of problems with the Puma turbo manifold whining, whooshing, smoking and falling off (studs falling out, gaskets failing etc.). After a year I finally fixed it myself using 10.9 bolts, NordLock washers and a self-contoured Nak copper gasket Thumbs Up

Some manifolds are warped (think mine is) and I also suspect some engines vibrate more than others...

p.s. We both have a 2011 model so it could be a "bad batch" Confused Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...

LR have just called me and I have told them to stop working on the vehicle........ they are flippen mad with their pricing. Will fix it myself....

Can anyone point me to a guide where the removal of the turbo and cleaning of the EGR are covered?

For the EGR, send a PM to custom90steve. He's changed his and knows his way around there.

For the turbo, if you just want to seal it you don't have to take it off completely. Once the three flange nuts/studs are undone it will pull away enough to get the old gasket out, clean the mating surfaces and get the new gasket in. If you need more clearance, undo the bolt holding the exhaust bracket onto the block nearest the bulkhead BUT re-fit this before tightening the turbo or you may have problems (ask me how I know) Thumbs Up Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
