I believe that a Euro "M" type-approved vehicle must have the 3rd brake light, but a Euro "N" type-approved vehicle does not have to, but can have one. If fitted either completely or partially it must be in working order. If you were to remove it completely from a recent Defender you would still be roadworthy and pass the MOT.

Remember also that some models don't have them anyway, eg DCs, PUs.

That is 50:50, will depend on the inspector.

A high level brake light isn't needed for an MOT (same as reverse light).....but as with the reverse light, if it has one, it has to work. Can you take it off for the test?

If they start applying this rule to the "seals" on the Land Rover, I think we will all be in bother. Rolling with laughter 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

replaced my 3rd brake light with a LED unit.

Usually one has to be bored to death to care about sth. like this, I guess. But for me it´s fun and improving skills on dealing with aluminium and the TIG machine.

The two standard brake lights are the LED units from BoltOnBits.

The bracket is made out of aluminium and no beauty but the best I could make yesterday.
The black paint wasn´t carefully applied. It will be hid by a cover anyway.

This one is called "Serie 135"
I think the manufacturer is called ledautomotive or similar.
Bought it from local ebay. keywords "LED Rückleuchten Kombination. Bremslicht, Rücklicht"
http://stores.ebay.de/Verkehrssicherungen-...34.c0.m322

I now have 5.5Amps flowing to the lights when the brake pedal is depressed.
EDIT: it´s 5.5Watt. Amperage is just 0.46A
Doesn´t help anyone except the brake light switch.
