hi.
couple of questions really - is it unusuall that sometimes apply the hand brake seems to require less movement and force compared to othertimes and where / how do you adjust the hand brake. I'm tempted to slacken it right off for trial purposes? many thanks. |

17mm socket and ratchet. Just so you know what you need before you get underneath, it gets tiresome trying to guess the size and crawling out for a bigger socket. Use a 1/2" socket and , fits in quite tidy.

thank you guys.
read the first few posts then found time to crawl underneat before reading the rest (been away and busy). anyhow this is what I did; went straight for the seat box adjuster found this a little difficult to adjust (it was like a spring.....turned it then sprung back?) kept at it and after a bit I reckon I ended up losening it by about 1/2 - 1 turn. hasn't made a significant difference to the hand brake lever feel but the rumbling when slowing down seems to have subsided I'm very tempted to have a look at removing propshaft and drum just to give is a clean inside and check theres nothing amiss. thanks again. |

didn't realise at the time there was an adjuster on the drum......

was looking last night for an adjuster on the drum....couldn't find anything.
just this post again and there's a nut on the front face..? didn't notice anything?? must go have another look? |

DO NOT USE CABLE ADJUSTMENT..... found the nut ! not sure how I missed it before - guess I was assuming there'd be an adjustment on the cable - a bit like the sierra clutch cables. so now to start messing (adjusting) this nut.... wish me luck. thanks very much Rakthi - most helpful. |

guys.
a bit of advise please. having had a go at adjusting the handbrake as per above it would appear that depending on the position of the drum can be either 3 or 4 notches on the handbrake lever to engage the brake. this I can only assume is the result of the drum not being round (which apparently isn't uncommon). I presume this is something that should be rectified underwarranty ? I'm sure if I take it back to local LR they'll just tighten the drum up such that the brake does operates on 3 notches - great huh? NO - not great cos then all the other problems will return (noisey, transmission slowing when changing gear etc) has anyone had this problem and what was done to resolve it. hopefully just a new drum. I suspect its just a case of a new drum but I'm a little sceptical having had a fail xbox input shaft and replace gbox. I deperately want to bottom things out before the warranty is up. outside of warranty I wouldn't be too upset having to replace the drum but not so another gear box. |

I'd imagine the drum could be put slightly out of true by the handbrake being rammed on too hard. Ideal time for this would be say if an MOT has been completed and they park it outside. I've had it. Get out to take it home and it's like the worlds strongest man has put the handbrake on! $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

Willy. I'm driving plenty now and the last few weeks (perhaps more) its been getting better and better. I have to say I've got a big grin on my face nearly all the time. it actually feels like a modern vehicle and no doubt how it should always have been. my only concern now is if there's a problem with the hand brake I'd clearly like to get it resolved under warranty and before I start upgrading and giving LR an excuse to void the last few months of warranty (albeit they've agreed to extend the warranty due to all the previous probs.). |
