This is bad..! How did the bonnet get removed if you had that much security on it...?

Defender theft is getting beyond a joke, I'm scared to go out in mine, fearing it will not be there when I get back.

Quite fancy a Jeep....I guess they don't get stolen as much..?

Feel sorry for you mate.

Simon

Bad Luck Mate Id be furious

When I dropped my Landy in at Stratstone in Cradley Heath, loads of FFRRs RRsports, Jags and Astons awaiting attention, told the receptionist about my security arrangements, and was told that due to problems they had with the theft of Defender bits in thier yard (Big fence, locked gate, CCTV and movement detectors) all defenders are now taken inside and that the buildings security has been beefed up. The other vehicles mentioned stay outside whilst awaiting attention and none so far have got damaged / robbed.

I think this is a problem that wont go away, you only need to look at e/bay and the quantity of parts on there to know it cant all be legit DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy

Sorry to hear that, especially after you had gone to such lengths to protect it.

Hardly surprising. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out that if you don't want an alarm to go off you disable the horns (Including the BBU that Blackwolf is convinced can't be overcome) and then reprogram a key and fob to car.

By the way, I had thought that fitting a hidden switch to the fuse circuit to the fuel pump would stop the engine from starting, but I found out on my 90 that its still possible to start with fuel pump fuse removed and drive off, albeit in limp home mode.

Gutted for you. But then your added security worked Thumbs Up
Don't be too hastie to replace the defender, as the thieving scum will find an excuse to nick any motor. Personally I've given up worrying about it. We have been really lucky and had 4 motors nicked in the past 7 years. These have been hi performance, to an 54 week old l200!! That was nicked in the middle of Thetford Forest, as well as an armed gang kindly removing our front door and taking the keys to the wife's car!
Yes times have been ****, Insurance premiums doubled, but don't let them live your life and decide what you can have or do Thumbs Up

Quick update had a look this morning to assess what mess they left right the scum have only been back to retrieve all there uh in wireing and stuff how cheeky and thats after i moved the vehicle closer to the house !
Damage done
-all 4 doors gone all plugs unclipped no cut thru the wires jobby
-All indicator and interior bulbs removed
- all horns removed both sides and both battery back up sirens removed one each side i added the second
- security bonnet hinges have been got thru they were fitted and a blob of tig on all nuts and bolts and a bike cable lock cut thru
- hand brake disconnected
-i think initially whats stopped them having it away was the x eng ignition barrel
Insurance phoned so all ready to go
Happy days Thumbs Up

It would have done, but with the horns removed what bother is that?? Pull the battery or fuses and they dont even have to work by flashing indicators lights

As stated above, the problem is that there is a ready supply of people prepared to buy off eBay late style Defender bonnets and doors etc no matter what the source as long as the price is good.

So even if you protect your Defender well, like OP, they still make off with £2K+ in parts and lots of grief for owner to sort. Not a good state of affairs if you own a late model Defender.

Cheers

Steve

So I assume the alarm went off and nobody checked what it was.
To get to the siren they must have opened , bonnet or door . If they had a clone they would not need to remove sirens.
On reading your post it was not parked outside your house.
Can have a Fort Knox alarm , if nobody responds to it.

I won't bother posting up how, as you get told off, but you don't have to open bonnet or doors to get to and remove horns. There are a couple of easy ways. That's why it's best to relocate them.
