No Ventilation + Radio message
I hope it's not been posted... can't find it anywhere, though.

Occasionally (the first time being after an intensive clean-up back from the sand dunes), when I switch on, I have no ventilation at all, the A/C switch reacts though (can't remember if the compressor starts... guess it doesn't), and the radio is off (even if I left it on before).

If I switch on the radio, no backlight, and it shows "1 HOUR ON" before working properly.

The rest seems unaffected.

It all goes when switching off and on again.

Appears from time to time, not necessarily after washing it. Any idea ?

Electrically speaking I have two issues that might be related : had a couple of tough shocks in the dunes that triggered the warning lights (guess it's the accelerometer... thanks god we don't have airbags... cleared by switching off and on), and I occasionally get a dimmed handbrake indicator... probably being a dirty contact down there, likely unrelated. Chris

You get the "one hour on" display when the ignition isn't on and you turn the radio on, so maybe the switched live isn't connected properly/broken.

When you switch the fan on from position 0 to position 1/2 or 3 does the fan work? If it does then I would suggest another electrical fault, maybe with your a/c switch. I presume you have checked the fuses?

Regards,

Mark

the "1 Hour" displayed on the radio usually happens when you have the ignition off and press the radio power button. the radio will run for an hour and switch off.

so, it looks like you have lost the ignition live, start by checking the relays under the seatbox, and the fuses

On the Aircon

No idea whats causing this but i'm 99% sure there are no accelerometers used to control anything in a Defender (unless you have a windscreen mount for your iPhone..)

Most likely electrical and directly related to the below though.

On the Radio

The 1 hour on implies there is no live ignition feed and only a permanent feed. Has it always done this?

It could be one of 3 things.

It only works with the ignition on: The ignition live feed is connected to the input on the radio for a permanent feed
It works all of the time: There is only a live permanent feed
It works all of the time: The Ignition feed is broken.

All fuses are good, and I confirm no position of the selector is operative.
The weird thing is that in the exact same condition, a couple seconds later, off and on again and voila it works.

Weird. Chris

Looks like radio is not getting its ignition feed when it has that problem, as 1 hour on is feature of turning radio on when no key is in ignition.

Air-con probably the same. I'd check wiring and earth points to make sure all is ok. If you are bouncing around regularly in the dunes, look at making stereo mount sturdier, as there is quite a bit of weight flexing on simple din mount.

Cheers

Steve

Possbily sand has been drawn into the air intake and it's got through to the fan motor clogging it. Which is stopping it moving. Craig Rogers

Check the relays under the steering wheel and in particular those under the drivers seat as there is one there that controls the AC. Thumbs Up LANDYWATCH
