While driving along the M40 southbound Monday the yellow dpf warning light came on, nothing unusual in this I have seen it many times before, mainly when stuck in traffic on a motorway or London. As I was at the bottom of the Stokenchurch cutting I dropped it into 5th floored it outside lane top of the hill light goes out, superb !
The following day going West on the M42 approaching Hopwood bank dpf light comes on again, strange it never normally come on twice in a week and on consecutive days strange, this time it did not go out for miles and miles. Then the red dpf light came on bringing on the engine management light as well and speed dropped straight down to 30mph, time to hit the hard shoulder hazards on. Turned it off waited 30 sec fired up set off still slow, stopped turned off etc etc 4 attempts later red light gone engine management still on but up to full speed. Phoned the dealer booked in for Sat am. Plugged in my Bluetooth obdII reader and recovered code but as could have guessed soot in dpf description. The following morning management light out and all seamed well. All the above repeated itself Thursday pm M40 Southbound and Friday pm A303 Southbound. Took it in to Matfords this morning walked the dog, drank coffee, drooled over a 12 plate full fat RR TDv8 in dark green only £53Thou (ouch) They have downloaded new 13MY engine and transmission control software into it and the difference is outstanding much much quieter smoother a little bit more pull not a lot but overall nicer to drive. If it does it again the want to change the dpf but the new software runs hotter exhaust gasses and regenerates more often but for shorter times apparently. Let’s see what happens and see if my mpg now improves. If everything is under control you are not going fast enough. I'm in a similar position. I should be getting a 2.2 demo to try for a bit in a couple of weeks but if I'm not bowled over I may just stick with my current 110 which at least is pretty sorted. If I get a new one it needs to be able to cope with plenty of cold starts and short runs, last thing I need is to have to P about due to a DPF or taking delivery of something which turns out to be a Friday afternoon lemon. Steve. Owned numerous Land Rover vehicles of all shapes and sizes over the decades. Current Defender: A non tarts hand-bagged Puma 110 XS USW. [Insert something impressive here such as extensive list of previous Land Rovers or examples of your prestigeous and expensive items, trinkets, houses, bikes, vehicles etc] http://forums.lr4x4.com I used to be Miserable ...but now I'm ecstatic. |

SWHMBO has sorted that this time round. She has stated it must not be built on a Monday or Friday and has demanded the personnel telephone numbers of the people building it. She also asked that if they have a few bits that they are not sure where to fit that they phone her and she will tell them where to put them As a lot of my journeys are short distance I am also a little concerned about the DPF. Having said that, the last Jag I had was fitted with a DPF and did similar short journeys and that never had a problem. I have driven a couple of MY12 2.2's and they seemed OK. If there have been significant changes to the mapping etc for MY13 then I don't think I will have anything to complain about. It is going to difficult for me to compare the 2.4 to 2.2 fairly as I am going from a 110 to a 90. That don't help ! Good friend had a ex Jaguar XF ?? and after new DPF's, umpteen trips back to the dealer, (they had it longer than he did!! ) he lost £10K in 9 months and px it back against a RR Sport,, I am now on my 4th Puma,, all been fine, Rear screen, ABS Sensor, and headlamps rings being the only problem on them all 2.2 V 2.4, power, mapping, runs smoother etc, am not bothered about, its DPF, and a Friday car is the problem,, maybe i have just been lucky up till now California F1, 75th 110 "Kermit", 50th Ann V8, 90 V8 Hybrid, 55 Series 1 Main Brian James Trailer Dealer for South West UK |

We have a Freelander2 that really never gets warm, wife uses it to go to school 3 miles away and back. The DPF hasn't been a problem (assuming defender set up is similar). Only thing we have had to do is change the oil early at 6k due to the regen system, I wonder if the defender does this and if it does, does it warn you about it.
