I should add that it seems to drive fine. And fuel economy seems to be ok. I'm currently at 210 miles on half a tank. Geoff

Is the puddle around the fuel rail, diesel? I noticed that the fuel return and injector pipes are dry on the pictures, did you wipe anything before taking the pics? Easy fix would be a burst return pipe causing the leak but this would not affect the engine idle. When you were at Chris's was the tool you used to check the DTC codes a generic reader or a diagnostic tool? Did you check the injector bolts nearest the puddle?

I didn't wipe anything, no. And I poked my finger into the puddle but I couldn't smell anything over the ordinary greasy stench that comes from lifting the bonnet.
I don't know what Chris used to read the codes, though I assume he does ![]() obviously the videos haven't uploaded correctly ![]() 2007 Defender 90 ![]() Click image to enlarge |

I was thinking it would be something to do with the oil since it was smoking when I took the cap off... Isn't that a sign of over pressurization or something like that? Geoff

The only real way to find out for sure would be to use a diagnostic tools live data page to watch the engine idle and rail pressure readings to discount the high pressure fuel rail/injectors as the cause of the puddle. The smoke from the filler cap could be due to over pressurizing of the crankcase, is the breather clean? I am a bit at a loss as to you having no DTC's logged at all, this is strange as untested/pending DTC's are nearly always present in all the Puma EMS systems I have seen? If it was a badly seated injector, leaking injector etc a DTC would be logged for an, "Injector ? imbalance". If it was an issue with the fuel flow from the tank, blocked filter, contaminated fuel lines etc then I would be looking for the operation of the VCV using a picoscope to see how far open the valve was at a set rpm eg, Idle, 2000rpm etc. I would be checking the puddle to see if it was diesel or not, if not then move onto the fuel filter and feed pipes as these would give the uneven running symptoms without logging a DTC.
I may not be able to reply further to your posts tonight as I am away from home using a sh**ty dongle in a gsmr area that has very limited signal reception. HTH Brian. |

Check the injectors fixing screw, seems that the injectors are splitting somethings ...

I'll try and find the crankcase breather, though it obviously doesn't look like the one on my old v8 because I can't see it anywhere right now
![]() I'll try and get some more info tomorrow, though I'm supposed to be working & entertaining tomorrow ![]() 2007 Defender 90 ![]() Click image to enlarge |

Yeah it is worrying, dgardel... But since there isn't a Haynes manual for the tdci I'm having trouble finding these things

So this problem just got worse quite rapidly... Tonight went to Leominster, and driving down my parents drive i have to open and close two gates. It stalled every time I stopped (after a few seconds of hunting). This was when the engine was cold. It was also lumpy on acceleration for a while and sounded a bit... odd... Then once it was warm it was fine (still idling rough, but no stalling).
Driving back to Stevenage through central london tomorrow so fingers crossed ![]() Not good. Geoff 2007 Defender 90 ![]() Click image to enlarge |

Geoff, have you checked that Engine Oil level mate, As i said to you it was pretty low even when you said you topped it up the other day. Just check it isn't eating the oil up baring in mind i put fresh oil in and filled it to the level

I checked it earlier today and it looked 100% full... Though it took me a while to figure it out because I'm used to oil looking black and it still looks brownish clear.

not sure if thes help, just taken from the manual:
