Haven't fitted mine yet. How do I not blow my fuse?

Overide the switch to turn the light off before removing the old bulb.
If there is a perm live up there, the only thing that will blow the fuse is touching earth, so that can only be the other side of the connector which is what the door switch earths. The power switch will either pass the earth down to the door or to perm earth (switch set to on). Other than that, just be careful....? The issue is that the backplate of the light fitting, which is permanently live, is quite large, so it's very easy to create a short between it the earth terminal. Taking the fuse out before fitting is an easy solution but if using the springy adapter to the typical panel-type LEDS then I was worried that it might move or flex in use and still make contact later. Hence my suggestion of a square of insulation tape. That's probably less of a concern with a 'fixed' bulb. Darren

But if the light is switched off, there is no earth surely?
As far as I know, the interior light is earth switched. If the switch is set to "door", the door pins earth the light. If the switch is set to "on", the switch earths the light If the switch is set to "off", there is no earth present. I could be wrong, and usually are, but if the light is off, then there is no way of earthing it. Craig Rogers 2007 Puma 110 XS 2011 Evoque Coupe Dynamic Lux www.craigrogers.photography |
