Obvious question... any comparison w.r.t. the Speakers (build/light quality etc.)? Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

Presume the "They are GREAT" comment refers to the new Nolden, yes? Same question here, will be interesting to see a full comparison between the Speakers and the Nolden..... Also the few pictures that I have seen with the Nolden turned on are always with low beam on. How do they look with high beam on? Any pics of that? You never actually own a Defender. I believe from an aesthetics point of view "the headlamps are the windows to the soul".
After a lot of work on Photoshop, I'd decided Speaker got it just right with their design before buying. Solid and practical without looking like a spider or boggle-eyed. Of the current alternatives, I haven't seen better yet but at least when the Chinese/Taiwanese etc. flood the market the prices will come down... Possibly correct, that's why I would like to see full test, and comparative test results. Seeing is believing You never actually own a Defender. The issue for me is not the lights but making them legal with self levellers and washer system. Does an E marked system mean they are legal for use in the UK and an MOT pass?

Is the levelling and washers not for HID's rather than LED headlights?

JWS (I do not know about the others makers) have the same homologation than the LR original, so, YOU DO NOT NEED SELF LEVELLING SYSTEM NOR WASHING JET......... Discovery 5 td6 HSE Stornoway Gray Outback Engineering Limited Edition

They should be legal without self levelling and cleaning as like the JW speaker units, they are under the 2000 lumen limit, however, I'm still waiting on dft to formally confirm this. The manufacturer building to ECE R112 means nothing as non filament bulbs are illegal for retrofit in UK under current UK vehicle lighting regulations. Dft only defers to European type approval in new cars and only provides a formal exemption for HID if fitted to their guidelines.
The 2000 lumen limit mentioned by Tim in earlier post and mentioned in this formal response from VOSA, also seems to provide an exemption for any units like JW Speaker and any other that are under this limit. Just a shame that dft haven't formally replied yet. However, response from VOSA does support that 2000 limit exists, so I would suggest you'd be safe that they are ok and legal. Cheers Steve ......... From: Enquiries@vosa.gov.uk Date: 27 December 2012 13:53:12 GMT To: s******@gmail.com Subject: Re: Retro fit LED headlamps without self levelling and washers Dear Mr. G****** Thank you for your email enquiry dated 20th December 2012, concerning the above. VOSA can only comment on the MOT scheme. HiD and LED headlamp levelling and washing systems will only be tested where they are fitted. If they are found to be inoperative or otherwise obviously defective they will fail. In the case of headlamp levelling, the tester must be certain that the system is operative before failing, as on some of these systems it is not possible to readily determine that they work as intended. The reason the test is this way is because not all HiD headlamps are legally required to be fitted with these systems. To be mandatory, the headlamp has to be over 2000 lumen. Generally, it is not possible for an MOT tester to determine whether this is the case, so the test is 'simplified' to take account of this. DfT produce a factsheet on aftermarket HiD headlamps at http://webarchive.nationalarchives.gov.uk/...dlamps.pdf although this does not mention the 2000 lumen requirement. If you have any further queries regarding the legality of these lights, you should contact the Department for Transport at ww.gov.uk/dft and select "Department for Transport" as the section to which you wish to address your query. I hope this information has assisted you with your enquiry, but if you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us again. Before someone says that this is , I comment here about the 2000 lumen cut-off for self-levelling and washers
Contrary to what has often been said here, I can confirm that not all HID lamps need self-levelling and washers. Proof is our VW New Beetle which here in Switzerland came ex factory with HID lights (factory option), and does not have self-levelling at all. We have washers, but that is only because I ticked that option box at the time, which had nothing to do with the Xenon option box..... One could order the Xenons without the washers too at the time (2004). I have no idea about the exact lumens of those Xenons on this vehicle, only know they are as bright as any Xenon lights on other vehicles, only difference being that they are "single" Xenons, not Bi-Xenons like usually is the case. So only explanation I can think of is that they must have remained under the 2000 lumen mark for not needing self-levelling and washers. You never actually own a Defender.
