I've painted my rebuild in stornoway I love the colour and have had the V5 changed from white to grey, very easy to do with the DVLA.
I think biggest decider on colour is the cost of the respray. If keeping the same or similar green then you can just have the outside done and leave things like the door shuts, engine bay, etc.
If having a complete change of colour then it is a lot bigger job especially in the preparation of the awkward areas so the price will increase a lot.
Also if a solid colour is chosen then its just the colour to buy, if you want a metallic then its base coat colour and lacquer so again the price increases!
I've sprayed mine myself but have still spent around £800 on paint products.
Decisions, decisions!!!!!
Good luck

Finally got a bit of time to get some done on the defender and got it off to the paint shop, she's all stripped down and ready for them to work their magic, hopefully get it back in a week or two Very Happy

Decided on the final colour and its going to be the original colour of Belize green with chawton white roof, sounds abit boring I know but to change the colour would be a lot more work and obviously cost a lot more, I want it to look factory so it makes sense to keep it original

Did you have to remove the top and capping to replace the right rear panel or does it slip under the capping?

Yes the side panel was removed at the time but the capping was left in place I just had to drill a few rivets out so there was a bit of flexibility, the corner trim was removed so all the spot welds can be accessed, once they were all drilled out then the old panel comes out

Few more little jobs done today, been through all the bits I've taken off the defender and decided what to clean up and re use and what to bin and replace
So ordered nuts, bolts, rivets, wipers, decal kit, seals etc
Painted a few bits up too.....

So, this afternoon got a call from the body shop saying I could go and start building the defender back up, its not quite finished yet, the roof is in primer and getting the final coat of chawton in the morning, so went down and I'm quite happy with the finish, I had my doubts about how good they would get the rear quarters as they were fairly bad as you can see in the previous pics but they look like new Very Happy just will need a quick buff when it's built back up
I've now got to task of putting it all back together tomorrow, there's sooo many bits and bobs to go back on!

Well I took a few progress pics as I left
