after hearing reports from another h3 owner, i would really recommend getting additional batteries and the external charger or the bacpac battery. I'm running 1080 and these new cameras like electricity

The best thing is, a spare battery is only £20, so having three still makes it pretty cheap!

The only downside (currently) is that there is no external battery charger, the battery has to be inside the camera to charge. I really hope GoPro bring an external charger out.

Craig, If you go for the "Wasabi powerpack" you get 2 batteries an external charger and a ciggie lighter adaptor so you can charge in the car, all for £32 delivered from USA, I got mine from prime scuba on Amazon, took about 2 weeks from order to my door. Well worth the outlay if you ask me. Thumbs Up

It says only in stock 1st Feb, when I ordered it said "in stock on 21st Jan." I got mine on the 18th of Jan, so their delivery time is very good Laughing all the way from USA in -3 days Laughing Optimists say the glass is half full..

Did you get stung with tax/duty? How does/should it work when buying from USA?

I think that's under the threshold.

I'm not certain on this, but if the duty payable is less than £9 then it's waivered....... But I could be wrong on that.

EDIT: Here's a snippet;

Duty is not charged, but VAT may be charged, if either the total value of the goods (not including shipping charges or insurance) does not exceed £135 or the amount of duty payable on any given item, does not exceed £9. Neither duty nor VAT is payable if the total value of the goods (not including shipping charges or insurance) does not exceed £15.

So, it still could be VAT-able being more than £15........ Craig Rogers

Nope, no tax, no duty...straight to my door without a customs sticker. They don't bother most of the time, I bought an expensive golf club a while back from the U.S. it was WAY over the £135 threshold and even then I ended up paying only £13 for the club's duty/vat and £13 for Parcelforce "handling charge"
I wouldn't worry about any additional charges anyway because it is advertised on a UK Amazon website and you are paying Amazon UK in G.B.P so I would assume all taxes should be null and void? I could be wrong...usually am Whistle Optimists say the glass is half full..

you can switch the front screen off, reduce the picture size to 1080p and switch off the wifi and you will get lots more battery life

To be honest, I don't think there is any point in filming in anything higher than 1080. Most people want it for either youtube/Facebook/Vimeo or buring to Blu-ray or DVD.

None of these formats support anything bigger, so why capture in super HD only to then convert down (which will probably loose quality).

Of course, you also have to remember, that if it's being used in cold conditions, then the battery will have even less life.

I don't have an issue, but then, I bought it knowing it would last around 2.5 hours max. Craig Rogers

I'm going to morocco to play in the desert (on my enduro bike, rather than the 50th Anniversary) and am just about to buy a Black Edition - but which one?
There's the normal black edition
http://www.evanscycles.com/products/gopro/...n-ec044269
and the Motorsport black edition
http://www.evanscycles.com/products/gopro/...n-ec044271

Has anyone worked out what the difference is?
cheers

As far as I am aware there is no difference in the actual camera, the only difference I know of between adventure/motorsport and surf editions are the various mounting options, the adventure/motorsport are identical but the surf edition will have surfboard mounts and tethers. The camera will be the same across the range (black edition) Thumbs Up
One thing to keep in mind for motorsport is the camera does not come with the sucker mount, that retails seperately at £29 in most retailers. Rolling Eyes Optimists say the glass is half full..

Anyone tried the smartphone gopro app to control the camera/live view? Does it work?

yep, works really well and much easier and quicker to change the settings for the camera, there is a 3 sec delay on the preview (on Iphone it is around 3sec, on Android it is about 1sec) and you can view what you are recording as you would on a handycam, but, only on resolutions 1440 and below (only when protune switched off), no preview on 2.7k and up. You can always edit protune on when editing your videos. Using the gopro smartphone app will save you money on buying the LCD viewer but the added bonus with the LCD viewer is you can watch back what you have recorded later (without having to plug camera into pc) I'm still undecided whether I will be forking out the extra £80 for the LCD tho' Rolling Eyes one drawback of the LCD viewer is battery drain, from what I can gather it is quite a thirsty Censored and drains the battery fairly quickly if used constantly but you can switch it off when you have set the gopro up Thumbs Up hope this helps... Optimists say the glass is half full..
