Personally unless the car is tuned within an inch of its life and is not used for what would be classed as normal driving id lease it alone. I have found that a centre cylincer removal but with a small box in and some air box modifications will give a better gain that the decat does.

One thing that Pete is not aware of is how bad our diesel is.
IIRC, diesel in the UK is <10ppm? We are still on 500ppm with 50ppm in major cities only, so that's a factor to consider -- 2010 Defender Puma 90 + BAS remap + Alive IC + Slickshift + Ashcroft ATB rear 2015 Range Rover Sport V8 Supercharged Defender Puma Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zZ1en9 Discovery 4 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zXrtKO Range Rover/Sport L320/L322/L494 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zc58JQ |

The heat issue is considerable, I cannot bear my hand on the back of the seat box when travelling to the shops, this was only on a 47C day.

yes we get those temps in some areas in Southern Africa also so I can relate. Even the aircon stops working. This is the main reason I would like to do a decat. I plan while I'm at the decat to lag the downpipe and centre box replacement. However I have read somewhere that stainless does not like to lagged and that it cracks, mild steel lagged, corrodes at a increased rate.

Lagging would retain heat. What about an insulated heat shield between exhaust and underside LANDYWATCH

I removed my cat about two years ago and have had no problems whatsoever. Living in a hot country, as I do, it made a huge difference not only to cabin temperatures but also reduced the engine temp as well.
When I contacted BAS asking if I could get one of his tunes and upgraded turbo's and I explained what I had done to the 90, I received a rather dismissive email back telling me that I had should never have removed the CAT and asked "who told you to do that?" The tone of the email was not impressive, needless to say someone else got my business. |

This is the result that I'm hoping for, when you consider how the Cat works by absorbing heat this would be the expectation. Hold one up to the light and you cannot see through them, not good for gas flow and heat removal ! |
