Lol.... just for fun (and during testing of speed limiter)
2.4 Tdci Puma. - this in it's latest guise, though will be on the dyno again soon. A rolling road is a useful tool when it comes to proving what power/torque the vehicle actually makes, and it helps when you can hold a vehicle at a set speed and fully load it - which is a massive help when looking at turbo control. Yep, will definitely do. Landy is booked in with my indie on 25th Jan to remove the cat. I'm in two minds about removing the centre silencer box as well... -- 2010 Defender Puma 90 + BAS remap + Alive IC + Slickshift + Ashcroft ATB rear 2015 Range Rover Sport V8 Supercharged Defender Puma Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zZ1en9 Discovery 4 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zXrtKO Range Rover/Sport L320/L322/L494 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zc58JQ |

Ok, but the centre box imposes more restrictions than the rear box, I'd rather get rid of the most restrictive stuff? -- 2010 Defender Puma 90 + BAS remap + Alive IC + Slickshift + Ashcroft ATB rear 2015 Range Rover Sport V8 Supercharged Defender Puma Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zZ1en9 Discovery 4 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zXrtKO Range Rover/Sport L320/L322/L494 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zc58JQ |

Yeah, I think I will. And I will keep the silencer. This way if SWAMBO complains about the noise, I can refit it without her finding out what I did -- 2010 Defender Puma 90 + BAS remap + Alive IC + Slickshift + Ashcroft ATB rear 2015 Range Rover Sport V8 Supercharged Defender Puma Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zZ1en9 Discovery 4 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zXrtKO Range Rover/Sport L320/L322/L494 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zc58JQ |

Id be interested if anyone fancys the test to know what removing the guts from inside a cat V a real decat removal pipe does for the exhaust back pressure, its known that some decats or exhaust systems can cause problems especially with surging due to thepressure being so low inside the exhaust.
Most can be mapped round but it does beg the question is a decat is worth the extra effort at all considering some cars will need a lot more work to make run correctly after a decat is fitted. here are some pictures of how I measured some temps and the exhaust back pressure on the original 2007 developement of which I see a few in this thread will be running the mapping knowlage from. http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic5632.html Im not saying dont ever remove the cat but I am saying be carefull as some cars can run worse with it out! Interesting comment Pete, is the exhaust back pressure even monitored by the ECU? -- 2010 Defender Puma 90 + BAS remap + Alive IC + Slickshift + Ashcroft ATB rear 2015 Range Rover Sport V8 Supercharged Defender Puma Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zZ1en9 Discovery 4 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zXrtKO Range Rover/Sport L320/L322/L494 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zc58JQ |

its not monitered no, but the turbo and some other engine components are build and designed round a known exhaust back pressure as this is always assumed to be standard factory.

Pete I would be very interested in the results of the decat test and whether its worth it. I have also heard that the removal of the cat aids in reducing cabin temperature. Is this true? I am about to decat my puma and now you have put doubt in my mind>>> Thank you.
