Christmas and it is too warm.....

it should be crisp and fresh and not so warm and wet. I like waking up at Christmas to a frost and blue skies, a light covering of snow as well would be good and then let it melt before we go back to work.......

grump over, have a great day everyone. BM52

Yesterday, M6, a little bit of mist, but no significant loss of visibility...

Complete W*nkers driving with FRONG & REAR FOGS on...at over 70 mph Evil or Very Mad

I had cruise control set a 69mph, and these guys were tearing past me.

So...if it's foggy ehough to need foggers on, surely it would be unsafe to do 70 mph...or...
if it's safe to do +70mph, how can it be poor-enough visibility to beed foggers Question

I bet many of them were Audis! Rolling with laughter

Visibility is *never* bad enough to need rear fog lights! They serve absolutely no purpose whatsoever except to increase greatly the user's likelihood of dying prematurely in a fireball.

I have come to the conclusion that their only purpose is to make it easier for normal motorists to identify drivers who really shouldn't be allowed behind the wheel. They're a bit like the other warning sign (for an indecisive driver) you often see on the back of cars like Nissan Micras, the one that looks like a fish! Rolling with laughter

(No offence intended!)

A curse on the idiot cyclist who suddenly appeared out of thick fog this morning along a narrow, dark lane who had no front or rear lights, may the fleas of a thousand camels infest his bed. Steve.

“Visibility is *never* bad enough to need rear fog lights!”

Absolute nonsense. Next time you’re out in fog or mist you’ll most likely see the outline of the vehicle in front before its probably filthy rear lights. On the other hand you’ll see a rear fog light long before the vehicle.

Even more noticeable is the fact that in these conditions you see vehicles coming towards you long before any “sidelights” (as opposed to dipped headlights). Bad visibility is subjective, but by turning on any lights at all the driver has acknowledged that he/she considers lights are necessary. So why “position” or “marker” lamps and not headlights?

Firms who send you "new" goods that have clearly been returned and repackaged and then turn out to be defective - what the hell are they thinking? It's such a waste of my Censored time Evil or Very Mad Tell someone you love them today because life is short.

The law says it's a £60 fine and 3 points for using high intensity rear lights when the visibility's greater than 100 metres.
I've never heard of anyone receiving a ticket.

Apart from the inconvenient (proven) fact that it becomes much harder to judge distances if the car in front has them on, there are two other major problems. Firstly it becomes much more likely that you won't notice the brakelights come on, and secondly if you are relying on high-intensity rear lights in front for your hazard perception you are going to hit the unlit broken-down car, the shed load, the cyclist, pedestrian, or horse, etc that is unlit or only has the mandatory 5 Watt tail marker.

When I learned to drive I was taught that you drove at a speed that allowed you to stop in the distance you can see to be clear. Not only are you failing to do this if relying on the high-intensity lights in front, but the dazzle from them is quite likely to be reducing the visibility you have.

They were a half-witted, half-cocked non-solution to the "problem" of motorway crashes in fog, actually caused (like most crashes) by bad driving, rushed into law by people unqualified to make the right decision. There is no scientific or behavioural research that suggests they actually do any good at all, and it is probable they have caused more accidents than they have prevented. In addition it is patently apparent that their correct on/off operation is too difficult for many modern motorists to master.

Apart from that, they're fine. Thumbs Up
