Td5 90 CSW audio upgrade/soundproofing.

So confused reading through the massive thread, so I thought Id start my own.

Looking to slowly upgrade the audio in my 90, and need some advice.

Currently I'm running the stock speakers under the dash, with a Sony headunit which I use to stream music from my iphone via bluetooth. Im useless with wiring, so will most likely need someone to do any of the more serious bits.

Where should I start?

Thoughts are a pair of rear speakers in some rear speaker panels, upgrade the under dash speakers and tweeters in the dash? Do I need an amp and should I upgrade my headunit?

What speakers to go for, it seems these would be perfect for the front and rear?

Whenever I pull up any trim or carpet etc. I'll be looking to add some sound deadening too.

Those speakers would be ideal front and rear. (same power but newer model of mine) You wouldn't need to upgrade the Head Unit unless you wanted extra features to it? You also won't require an Amp at all for the front and rear speakers as the HU has enough power to supply those no problems.

Regarding sound proofing most seem to either go for Dynamat ( My preference) or Noisekiller and of course there is other type's available though E-bay. There are members on here that have done their sound proofing so probably in a better position to answer your questions as I haven't got around to doing mine yet.

As steve said Dynamat is the one, butt is costly, it cost me £130 to do the back of my 90 and i still got the sides, roof,door cards and front to do

Chris, when you do your doors will you fix the Dynamat to the inside of the door skin or back of the door panel ?

Will be the door Skin mate, i cant see it making a difference on the door card itself

Just wondered if anyone had Dynamated the robber Gbox tunnel ?? Looks possible, but still has a big whol;e in the middle, so would it be worth it, or would it funnel the noise up ??

It is quite hard, just a funny shape one side. Doing it all with Dynamat. In for a penny and all that. Managed to get a deal on the door kits, at my local ice. They have a load so keen to shift ! Going to try and do it matching the removable panels so as they can be removed if necessary without ripping it all up. Bought some ali tape to cover the joints.

I haven't got around to getting any / fitting any but I've heard nothing but positive comments and never seen a single bad comment about it. Just takes a bit of effort to fit as there is so much removal of trim ect to do first. âï¸âï¸God Bless the USA ðŸ‡¬ðŸ‡§ðŸ‡ºðŸ‡¸ âï¸âï¸

Slowly getting there with the Dynamat- not finished yet, still the floors to do, but what a difference. I have a h/t 90 TD5, and have done all the rear panels to roof, wheel arches, bulkhead (both sides) and seat box so far. Still have the firewall and floors to go but already it is notably quieter !!!

Brought some rubber checker plate matting of flea bay and coated the dynamat on the bulkhead, and above the wheel arches. Have mud sides to go above. I have used 7 boxes (@ 12 sq ft) so far, so another 3 should see it finished. Think it will be the best £400 upgrade ever for a defender !

If your thinking about it , my advice would be do it !!

Mine has got gallons of the stuff in it, tonight driving home in the (some places flooded) roads, you can't even hear the water spraying up in the back. As said above, a good mod to do
