Publicising the changes you've made probably defeats the object to be honest, but I'd be interested to know how much the BBUS kit was and where you got it from? Darren

Okay I reckon a general pointer can't hurt.
On a TD5 have a look at the alarm loom and if you have a plug that looks like this (brown one) you can add BBUS. Mine was just plug 'n play  Click image to enlarge The BBUS looks like this. Click image to enlarge I got mine from Dan @ Duckworths it was LR014059 and cost £76+VAT and that is all I needed. For the normal sounder I moved this by tracing back the wires to the large multiplug attached to the heater box and then spliced a new loom in and then I've hidden it. For the BBUS I extended but you can trace back and splice in if needed (need to be careful though as the four wires are unmarked and just black and if you get them wrong it will go off and it's fecking loud and unplugging it doesn't stop it!!!  )
The location of both alarms are disparate, very awkward and secret  |

Also, worth checking your bonnet alarm switch.
Mine was 'lazy' and would have triggered the alarm should the bonnet be lifted. I removed, cleaned, WD40'd and now it works as it should. |

If you haven't got the wiring already there on the defender for the BBUS you will need to buy and fit a wiring harness part number: YMD001020 which is also available from Duckworths (Approx. £115.00). This harness connects to the main loom plug in the corner of the bulkhead and has all the connections on the other end for the BBUS and headlight, indicator, sidelight, horn, etc

Throw that part number into google and it shows a very different looking part, I'd reccomend playing it safe and getting it from a LR dealer |

I'm convinced that these LR014059 BBUS alarms are the same as the second hand ones on Ebay which appear to quote part AMR4974 or AMR 4971.... Only risk there of course is how good the Nicad battery will be at holding its charge on a second hand one.
Not really worth the risk IMHO, so best to buy new but factor in a need to test how it holds its charge every now and then and replacing it at some point. What's really frustrating is those part no's above are seen from P38 Rangies and Tdi Discos. I'm making a big assumption that they were standard fit, but if so, LR had the kit, and seem to have standard wired the Td5 for the BBUS and then penny pinched and didn't fit one as standard.... Makes you wonder if perhaps a few less could have been nicked  Jon - 110 td5 [sold]. Currently Defenderless. |

Wonder if the harness for BBS is there on all Pumas....? Anyone know for sure. Too cold and wet for me to go and have a look

Mine didn't have the BBUS plug
 ....so I had to buy the harness.
My Defender is an 07 XS SW 110 Puma in case that matters? |

Yes, more money for the harness but might be better than loosing your Defender.

If somebody can find the plug (it's quite unique though) then I'm happy to trace back to the big multiplug on the side of the heater box and do a wiring diagram. I wouldn't suggest just loose pins; if one came off it would be a *loud* fix.
The extra loom as I understand is the same as what is there plus 4 wires and the plug for the BBUS. The 4 wires to the BBUS are Perm+ / Perm- / Signal 1 / Signal 2. Ironically you don't want to put the BBUS in the front wing anyway, so you might end up buying the loom and chopping the BBUS wires out. So if anybody can source the multiplug I'm happy to do instructions to wire to the existing big block on the heater box. |
