Wonder if the harness for BBS is there on all Pumas....? Anyone know for sure. Too cold and wet for me to go and have a look

No, It seems that Td5s had the wing harness for the BBUS as standard, even if not fitted with the BBUS, but the Puma only has the correct wing harness if there was a factory-fitted BBUS.

If there wasn't a factory-fitted BBUS you will only have the harness for the standard, non-battery-backed alarm sounder.

If you have the BBUS harness, it will have the connectors for both the BBUS and non-battery-backed sounders.

On a slightly different tack, has anyone here fitted a second BBUS in parallel with the original? Did this work OK?

It's already available in the Puma Electrical Manual.

Does it name the pins?

I reckon Welshgas is onto something here. http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic17156.html

I think, (think..... Whistle ) you could parallel and after market BBUS on the original sounder circuit.

Might just order one to have a play.

Well, to be pedantic it doesn't name them (since they don't have names) but it does identify them. Wing harness BBUS connectivity is thus:-

C1265-11 to C0666-3
C1265-10 to C0666-1
C1265-9 to C0666-2
C1265-3 to C0666-4

C1265 is the bulkhead end wing harness connector, C0666 is the BBUS connector. All wires have black insulation in a poor attempt to obfuscate the identities to deter thieves. I am not going to identify which signal is on which pin in a public forum.

Problem with the after market BBS is re-setting after an accidental alarm. A lot of the after market ones have a key to reset the alarm. However with the LR one you can do it with the fob.

Thanks Mr. Wolf - knew I should have gone for this as a factory option but I wanted to have the vehicle straight away so went for one in stock at a dealer which sadly didn't have the BBS. Was £50 +VAT at the time as a factory fitted option.

I'm convinced that these LR014059 BBUS alarms are the same as the second hand ones on Ebay which appear to quote part AMR4974 or AMR 4971.... Only risk there of course is how good the Nicad battery will be at holding its charge on a second hand one.

Not really worth the risk IMHO, so best to buy new but factor in a need to test how it holds its charge every now and then and replacing it at some point.

What's really frustrating is those part no's above are seen from P38 Rangies and Tdi Discos. I'm making a big assumption that they were standard fit, but if so, LR had the kit, and seem to have standard wired the Td5 for the BBUS and then penny pinched and didn't fit one as standard.... Makes you wonder if perhaps a few less could have been nicked Shocked

Old thread revival time Mr. Green

Ok I've just purchased a bbus off ebay (amr4971 as mentioned above) but it seems to work backwards Big Cry I wanted to test it after fitting and when I took the negative wire off the battery nothing happened but when I put it back on the bbus sounded!! So my question is does anyone know if the p38 bbus has two wires the opposite way to a defender or do I have to shell out another £80 or so for a defender one?
Cheers
Ray

I'll take a photo of my wires order at the plug that should tell you if they are wired the same.

It will be tonight though

Worth comparing wiring diagrams ? Td5 Defender ones are easily found on the net, so hopefully a P38 would too

Also, seem to remember that when I connected and then disconnected mine to test (new Defender one) nothing happened. Then of course, the penny dropped that it needed to charge up first Thumbs Up

I don't recall the BBUS going off when first connected though... Jon - 110 td5 [sold]. Currently Defenderless.

Good evening boyzz,

Just joined your forum, so I hope you'll excuse me for being veeeeery late and coming back on an very old thread ( 2014 ) Wink

Like you guys in the UK, were are now getting unwanted elements Censored sc um in NZ that are trying to make the "anouthorisedly acquired Wink " Defender parts a worldwide problem... Crying or Very sad

To that end I acquired a AMR 4971 from Ebay, although my TD5 is fitted as standard with the BBUS already I thought I'd fit an additional one .
Like mk1collector in his Post #304447 2nd Feb 2014 6:03pm I'm a bit stuck......

This BBUS ex Rang Rover is wired differently that the TD5 BBUS....

Any one help me out ????

Many thanks
