Hi Steve - yeah the new head unit has a cage with it so should be ok but if i do need a hand i may just call apon your skills if thats ok as if it does not go the way i hope i get mad and break things lol Thumbs Up

Just be sure not to use anything sharp edged which may mark the plastic. To get it started I used a screwdriver with electrical tape over it. That way no marks or damage done. I think I have a few pics hang on... ⭐️⭐️God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⭐️⭐️

Wales 2011 Defender 130 Puma 2.4 HCPU Keswick Green
Hi, has anyone connected a speed signal input wire to the puma. I am fitting a double din Pioneer F900BT to my 2008 110 DCPU. Reading the documentation that came with the unit, I need to connect the speed signal cable to give the navigation unit better accuracy/performance. Can anyone tell me the cable to connect to on the puma. John

i would also like this info to control the switching of front and rear parking cameras and a rear view camera.

in your case, are you sure it is a speed input and not a stationary vehicle input that is needed. a lot of satnav systems do not allow you to program them whilst the vehicle is moving.

Stationary in-put can be taken from the handbrake as some HU's do to prevent you playing Visuals Such as DVD's whilst driving. (Which is illegal Rolling Eyes )

Also the rear view trigger could be taken from the reverse light feed also. ⭐️⭐️God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⭐️⭐️

I think it is more to do with navigation position, What I mean is, say I drive into a tunnel and lose the signal, the pulsed input will allow my position to be calculated until I get out of the tunnel and get a signal. From what I've read it is not required to make the unit work, only if you want the accuracy.
I was thinking about the rear camera input from the reverse light, but may opt for a switch so I can have it working without it being in reverse, ideal when towing and wanting to check the load. John

All Sat Navs do that in tunnels but as a general rule I wouldn't see it as an issue unless it's something very long i.e. abroad some where. Thumbs Up

With your reverse feed have you ever thought of a three position switch.
Example:
ON 1 live switched when ever you require it on
OFF turns it completely off
ON 2 On only when reverse gear is selected when not in reverse gear it will be off.

I think Carling do these kind of switches.

Not all, some do actually calculate from the speed pulse signal (as John mentioned) then they know exactly (give or take, based on actual speed) where they are. High end or OEM connected stuff usually, my old Tom Tom did something similar (as most do I think) and worked out roughly where you should be based on the previous speed before signal lost - did come a bit of a cropper when in Brussells though as there were loads of interlinked tunnels and underpasses and I had to wait for it to 'catch up' when surfacing!

As Steve says, not really an issue in most tunnels as there's only one way in or out, you just have to wait for it to re aquire gps signal when you come out the other end.

There's a reverse feed already in the landrover radio loom (as far as I remember, details on here somewhere, one of Mr Gardels helpful diagrams IIRC) and I took a feed off that.

Stationary in-put is often just an earth through the handbrake and a lot of units (as far as I know) can be wired up 'incorrectly' by either just earthing to the chassis of the hu - my Clarion for example or going through a 'special relay to fool the input into thinking the handbrake is on, obviously not sensible as the idea is to not allow input (or video watching) whilst driving, but handy to have a passenger inputting sat nav info if required maybe.

I like the idea of switching front and rear cameras from the speed pulse, I expect that's how some of the oem systems do it.

Always interesting to have a look at this thread and see whats being done.

Speed pulse is Pin 13 on the rear of the instruments black with a red trace IIRC

A lot of installed Sat Navs want a speed pulse as it is do with nav accuracy in tunnels and for use in high built up areas where the GPS lock is less so less accurate.
