SVX style headlights - aux high beam lamp - LED replacement
Now that many amongst us, including myself, have changed their main halogen headlamp units (H4 55/60W low/high beam) for the JW Speaker 8700 Evolution, we are still left with the auxiliary high beam lamps which still are a halogen H9 65W bulb.
Question is if there exists a LED replacement unit for this auxiliary high beam lamp? Ideally also a high quality JW Speaker unit with proper ECE approval/marking, which would be a plug and play replacement.
If so, I would go for that. You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

why not fit an HID kit ... will certainly be cheaper than a JWS LED, and being a spot / aux light I think that would still be legal. Lots of H9 HID kits available .. I've been thinking about that for a while, but since getting the E-Series it's dropped down the list.

Steve, think would strongly prefer LED over HID. There are advantages, like LED come on instantly, while HID have to warm up some.... My Speakers are LED, so prefer to continue with the same...

What do you mean by getting the "E-series"? What is that?

The 'E' series is a 40" led light that's on the roof rack that has a beam that's like a stadium flood light! Whistle

Don't try that here in Switzerland. They will confiscate the car and crush it before you know it Mr. Green
Besides that, want to keep the standard SVX look, so still would prefer the mentioned LED replacement for the aux lamps.....

I am also looking for something to replace my Lightforce 140's. Must be round, must be brighter than the 140's (preferably whiter light as well) and must be 5" in diameter or smaller. Is there anything out there at all?

Eric - thanks for the heads up - luckily I have ordered a black front cover for it Thumbs Up

have you considered swapping the "fogs" for LED replacements .. a pair of Rigid Industry D2's perhaps ?

Not really, I do līke my Hella Comet 550 amber fogs very much. Both the (a bit classic) looks of them, and their very wide spread perfect for low fog, as well as the fact that if they are perfectly leveled, they do not blind oncoming traffic at all. Actually, they are in my opinion one of the best real fog lights on the market still now, even if the design goes back decades already.

Now with the Speakers installed, I must admit that these last ones' low beam spread is also much wider than the original SVX H4's, so won't need to use the Hellas too often anymore.

What I really would like to change next, and think you have seen it from recent posts, is my auxiliary high beam lamps, and my number plate lamp... Would like to change both for LED's, but have no interest to do any HID conversion on the aux.
Several reasons for this wish to convert... 1. the looks of course, the aux LEDs should melt in very well with the Speaker 8700's, 2. the standard aux H7 light now looks extremely yellowish in combination with the LED headlamps, 3. when switching to high beam the LEDs come on so fast (instantaneously) that it is clearly visible that the aux H7 bulbs need a few /10 of a second to follow.... Even a "real" HID lamp (forget about just changing the H7 bulbs for so-called Xenon bulbs in the existing aux) would not be good enough, as first class HID lights also take time to build up tension to get to full output, even much longer than H4's.... So my choice comes really down to LEDs, or... LEDs Whistle

So waiting for Tim to let me know if a LED version for the aux exists, preferably from Speaker..... And I am not the only one who would be interested to do so as we have seen from reactions in the dedicated thread Whistle

As to the number plate lamp, I have seen that Perei apparently have a plug 'n play LED version of our Defender number plate lamp now.... I have asked Tim also about this one, is it really plug 'n play, is the quality really 1st class, and can he offer it?

Nice picture of your truck by the way Thumbs Up Know you are continuously making more mods for next winter's trip north, but good to see the ICE still looks pretty homogenous, almost standard... Like it vm Thumbs Up

hi Eric

Thanks for the compliments regarding the Ice. The modifications I have made can all be reversed before I sell it. I still have the original bumper, battery tray etc. the e-series is attached to the roof rack etc.

LEDs - I see you have been trawling the net for replacement units, have you looked for h7/h9 LED lamps ? I know there are h4 LED replacement lamps but they are illegal to fit, but as the 90mm's are AUX it should not matter.

Rigid do these round units but I can't find a size Embarassed

It will be time for a new truck next year, I quite fancy a 130.. so the Ice will probably go, unless I stuff it in the garage and put a sheet over it .. who knows

I have checked the Rigid-Ind round units and they are PAR36 which means they are 110mm, 20mm too big for the SVX unless it is possible to remove some of the packing from the edge, looks possible but you would need to see a lamp unit in the flesh before buying.

Hella also do a 90mm LED unit but its more of a fog/DRL unit
