To be 100% road legal the tread of your tyre should be within a vertical line dropped from the wheel arch. Side walls can be protrude outside vertical line. Can not remember if that comes under C & U or what legislation but is not an MOT issue.

Wider arches can be bought from Barry at Flatdog, have a look HERE

That will not completely cur the problem however. You might also want to consider the Entreq Mudflap extensions which we stock. details can be found HERE These extend the front mudflaps 50mm outwards.

whats wrong with a muddy land rover Cool

i happily run 235 bfg all terrains (without spacers) and i have never got stuck at a shoot in 20 years

a driver training day with LRExperience maybe cheaper than wheel arch extensions or a fine as Leeds highlights
Thumbs Up

I run this set-up on my 110 and the biggest problem is the gap between the bottom of the arch and the top of the mud-flap. I'm not sure that wider arches would solve it, to be honest, as the tyre is under the existing ones.

For illustration purposes only, before anybody comments - I know it's not that muddy:

It's on my list of things to do to make up an infill between the two from some rubber sheet when I get chance. Darren

Mine with 285's is the same. Wish someone would come up with a bolt -on solution that looks good.

That's the kind of thing, although I'd prefer it made out of something flexible. Darren

Brendan, sorry to say the Entreq mud flap extension brackets do very little to help in this situation if you have a non standard offset wheel fitted (or spacers) - as you know I do have a set fitted on my 110.

The problem is the taper at the bottom of the eye brow and the gap between the wheel and the mudflap - this allows an unrestricted path for the mud and dirt to cover the side of the vehicle.

The only way to resolve the issue is to fabricate something to fit into the gap, Markb110 has used rubber from an old mudflap to make an extra flap that stops the problem. Easy to do if you have rock sliders fitted as they give a convenient fixing point.

The Entreq MF extension is excellent and a worth while addition but, unfortunately, they don't help that much with the problem if you have a different offset wheels or spacers.

sorry Embarassed
i was in a pants mood after driving a C1 back from the dealers Evil or Very Mad

Southdown did a rockslider that had a rubber section at each end that met with the spats to provide a bit more cover in that area; trouble is you can't get them anymore.

i'm not helping much, am i?

This is what I did
My puma is on a 285 75 16. And to prevent it to get all muddy , I installed these Sidesteps , then connected it to the Fender Flares with a piece of aluminum ( it forces the lower side of the flares out to make it as wide at the bottom as it is at the top ) so now it covers the width of the tires.

It works very good and not it don't dirty itself as it used to do.

You can see how it looks on this photo ( the cartoons and the red colors are PHOTOSHOP Wink. )

I can take a closup photos of this later if you like and post it on my gallery. http://www.defender2.net/gallery/index.php?cat=13451
