What I did to prevent the landy to become all dirty when driving in mud with wider tires are as shown on these photos.
I put on a 285 75 16 tires on a 8 inch wide rim ( from paddock ) . The car did get all dirty driving it like that because the tires are wider than the fender flares , especially where the flares meet the body at bottom. the top of the flares do cover the with of the tire. I installed a 3mm aluminum boards both side , then I bought a vines plates to use as a mud flaps. The vines is stiff enough go force the fender flares out at the bottom making it wide enough to cover the tires. Connected it to the aluminum boards and its like you see on the photos. It works very good and now I can drive in mud without the car to become to muddy . Gonna close the gap in the aft of the rear tires to later. Never mind all that, it's a very practical and elegant solution.

If you made a mud flap that extended UPWARDS as well as downwards then when bolted to the mudflap bracket, but further outboard than the normal mudflap, it would extend up into the wheel arch and if the same width or greater could be moulded into the wheel arch brow. Use of the mudflap extension bracket by Entreq could assist .
Or, using a slightly thinner material overlaying the mudflap and extending upward and outward into the wheel arch could do the same, the aim being to extend the wheel arch brow down onto the mudflap LANDYWATCH Neighbourhood Watch for Land Rover Owners http://www.landywatch.co.uk/smf2/index.php |

It is what I´m doing in front. The mudflap extend up much higher than seen and then it connects to the inner fender with some black silicon and few screws making it a closed space.
Gonna do the same in rear. Move the rear mudflap much closer to the rear tire. Then extend it to close that space around the rear tire. I will post some photos when I have it done. http://www.defender2.net/gallery/index.php?cat=13451 |
