Sounds like the throttle input sensor? I doubt that's the gearbox itself, basically it looks like the ECU is being told that the throttle is not off completely, hence why the revs are still up -- 2010 Defender Puma 90 + BAS remap + Alive IC + Slickshift + Ashcroft ATB rear 2015 Range Rover Sport V8 Supercharged Defender Puma Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zZ1en9 Discovery 4 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zXrtKO Range Rover/Sport L320/L322/L494 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zc58JQ |

Could be the switch on the clutch pedal. There was a recent thread on this subject.

Is this vehicle new or under warranty - if so and you are not happy with it take it back and get them to sort it.
I think this issue has been covered here before, IIRC the cure may have involved checking the switch on the clutch pedal. Steve. i have been told the same as the Demo car i drove done the same and mine does it a little but not alot of revs so to speak as i hardly notice it but i just think that its got warrenty so if is broke LR will be fixing it and its not affecting the drive.
will keep a watch to see what other anser you get |

easy to eliminate the clutch switch....
open bonnet and disconnect the switch/plug connection next to the clutch master cylinder then take it for a wee drive. the difference 'should' be obvious. |

And what does that clutch switch do or then not when disconencted? Any bad impact if disconnected?

Stab in the dark but could this possibly be down to the anti-stall facility? If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

I think your right on that too Mal. Probably a type of electronic monitoring. After all from idle in first you can just bring up the clutch with no throttle and the anti stall kicks in straight away. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇺🇸⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |

Hey all thanks for your responses! I will be popping into the dealership and getting them to rectify as the car is under warranty for another 3 years I really hope they can sort it quickly!! Will post up how things go. Best would be to have a defender 'expert' take my 90 for a spin to make sure I can get everything sorted!! If there's one available that is! Hey all, am taking my 90 into the dealership on Sunday. Before taking in I thought I'd grab a few more pointers/advice for issues that I'm having so I can have everything sorted in one go!
1. Clutch sensor - when driving, if I press the clutch the revs stay elevated for a little while, then drop slowly..and then drop to idle (as clutch is fully pressed) 2. There is a lot of play in the gear stick, quite a lot more so than the demo I have driven for a while. From reading on this forum it seems a simple fix. Just want to ensure the 'slackness' is not a result of any other issues. 3. Clutch peddle is a lot 'looser' as to say than the demo??? ( the demo drives perfectly by the way!!) 4. When accelerating and then changing up a gear, the car sort of jolts forwards/nose dives?? Have no idea what the hell it is or could be!! 5. When turning the 90 off after my driving around, the car lets out a big judder?!!!!?? 6. Changing from 1st gear to second gear = KLUNK?? All other gears are fine? I just want my 90 sorted!! I've purchased from new (62) and intend on keeping for a long time so just want everything sorted. It's difficult to understand as the demo I racked 600 miles in drove like a dream!! So any further input on the above issues will be hugely appreciated!! "Innocence proves nothing, as there is no such thing as innocence, only degress of guilt" |

There is a new SSM on TOPIx I noticed this morning. It relates to this sort of thing on the 2.2, and effectively says 'it's perfectly normal so get used to it'. Something to do with aiding the gear changing.
I did have an issue with an early 2.4 which had started to eat its clutch master cylinder seals and contaminating the fluid, causing the clutch switch on the master cylinder to get confused. I doubt it is this though given the age. All Defenders are different, so you can jump into one and it feels completely different to another. |

4. So does mine - my LR dealer calls it "kangarooing" and LR tried to improve it with new firmware (which made other things worse). It could be something else like the clutch but driving in a "Defender-friendly" way helps a lot.
5. So does mine, sometimes. 6. So does mine - I have to let the revs drop off and go from 1st to 2nd really gently. 2nd to 3rd can also be interesting as it snatches sometimes. Pushing the lever to get gentle pressure on 3rd then pushing right in is a lot smoother. I got really obsessive about my gearbox when I first got the 110 (look at my first months of posts on this forum) but gradually I've just got used to it - it isn't any worse after 25,000 km and I hardly think about it any more. BUT make sure you tell the dealer all these things - it's his job to make sure you're happy (even if he doesn't think so). Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |
