Windscreen replacement
I had a replacement screen a couple of weeks ago after a bolt was flicked up on the motorway in Denmark. Auto glass replaced it, but it leaked immediately. Took the car back, they found nothing, said it was the foam filler between the windscreen and the bulkhead. I pointed out it never leaked before, it was literally like putting a hosepipe in the footwell.

This weekend it's back at autoglass after I found the leak with my hosepipe. Bottom of the windscreen, by the heater conections on the left and right. I then went to the land rover garage to have a look at the new x tech. I had a look at the windscreen rubber and it looked as if it had a double seal, mine has literally about 1.5mm of overhang Confused Round the windscreen. Autoglass remain adamant it's a landrover replacement.

Does anyone have any idea's. does the original have double seal? I'm now two weekends without my car Evil or Very Mad

I swapped the heated screen & rubber out of my 100" into th ePuma a couple of weeks ago (was used for less than a year before I put it in the garage when I bought the Puma), and I'm sure both rubbers have a 'double lip' around the outer edge against the body.

I sealed the new one into the Puma & all ok, I ran out of time on the 100" and it leaked like a pig until I sealed it.

Best of luck.

The issue of possible windscreen surround corrosion with ingress of dirt and crud was highlighted by me nearly three years ago in the thread below. I and Fekete had long running issues with water ingress which were finally resolved with a windscreen out and sealing the seal. With all the crud that sits in the channe under the seall it is no wonder at all the corrosion shown in the pictures. I would imagine there will be many more cases of this to come in the next year or so.....

Ah, trade connections!

The reason I ask is that I have a heated screen stashed in the house, and an unheated screen with several stone-chips and cracks in the Defender, and need to get them swapped. I am trying to figure out who best to get to do it, bearing in mind the tales of leaks etc.

Best local quote sofar has been £90 from Gavin (of special resin fame).

I was thinking of doing it myself as I have done quite a few traditional flat class rubber-sealed windows in the past, but it is a rather expensive piece of glass to risk if it goes wrong.

It is a shame! Would have been great to have a Landrover glass specialist do it!

Can anyone recommend a windscreen fitter in the Poole/Blandford area of Dorset who can do a good leak-free job on a Defender at a sensible price?

When replacing heated screen you have to seal rubber wear tags are. Even if you fit new rubber because we're tags are soldered to screen a small piece of glass is removed to solder tag to buz bar that's why they can leak water passes down and back up into car were tags are as there's a hole there

What are wear tags Claire and where are they? I've not noticed anything additional on my screen other than the 12v connections? John
