Would be the ideal solution If I can figure out postage to Germany, still willing? Cheers Matt p.s. we don't seem to have scrap yards, as such, around here and they want silly money for old cr*p Tell someone you love them today because life is short. No sweat....Kraut another forum member from Westfalia is over here somewhere at the moment? Wonder if he's heading south at any point? Could do a bit of a relay if it suits everyone?

Thanks again for the info When you say you drilled some big holes in the cat, I'm guessing you welded them up afterwards? Or am I hopelessly off-track (as usual) And the water? Another option would be to fit a tri metallic sports cat to the downpipe. Probably adding £150 to the cost of building the downpipe, but offers a pretty much free flowing system up front and it is a cat unit for inspection.

Yes your miles out! when you look into the turbo end of the cat pipe you can see the honey comb of the cat. I bloked the other end off, filled the pipe with water to stop the dust then drilled through the honey comb ,NOT the body of the cat, with a 15mm masonry drill bit to break up the cat. Then tipped the bits out. filled again and repeated until the cats gone. then you'll have an empty standard down pipe 20 minutes tops and i had a cup of assam aswell during the operation |

All over it T1G..... Sorry for picture quality.... Decat pipe assembly....... Click image to enlarge Utilising my 6 year old daughter to hold the torch you can just see the light on the fine mesh of the internals of the catalytic convertor looking in the turbo end. It is this that must be removed. Click image to enlarge No comments please about my shagpile rug, but SWMBO wasn't happy when she saw my 'pipe' being wiped on it..... Er...who can calculate the volume of a downpipe, please?
So far, DHL, Fed-Ex and UPS all want to know the volume, otherwise they ignore the real weight and calculate it based on a box it would roughly fit in = 45 Kg = £300 Help! Are you sure they mean the volume of the pipe or the volume of the box that will hold it? First option wouldn't make sense to me.
My experience with German couriers is that they want the three lengths of the box and add them up and this gives them the size they are going to charge you for. Must say though, that it seems freight / postage from the UK to the mainland is much higher than the other way round and within the continent. No idea why this is so |

Yep - real volume of pipe
Nice lady at DHL said if I give her the real volume (not box volume) they will calculate the weight that way, saving a lot of money Matt Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

length of pipe x((Diameter of pipe squared divided by 144) x .7854) = cuft
i.e. 3" pipe 10ft long = (((3*3)/144) x .7854)*10 = .4908 cuft cuft x 28316.8 = Cubic centimetres. cuft x .028316846 = Cubic Metres Original Member Pie n Pea Club. 110 HCPU Tipper |

All sorted now. Organising postage from this end involves significantly less hassle and less expenditure even with Fed-Ex who happens to be one of the cheapest. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!
