Also met Lyndsay Porter of LRM fame...lovely chap. We discussed suspension, LEDs, autos (he has all!)

Then we convoyed down the M42 and the M5..great fun. Got home at midnight.

For the turbo, it is made by cast iron (not steel) and the "rust" it is not rust but superficial passivation (like the exhausts manifold and the engine block). Discovery 5 td6 HSE Stornoway Gray Outback Engineering Limited Edition

Broke down, left fluid all over road.

Land rover assist came and fixed the pipe.

Same old a clip had punctured the coolant pipe. Gonks at the factory not screwing them together.

cleared out the huge clumps of dried muck that accumulate around the ends of the outriggers and topped up the inside of the chassis, nooks and crannies around the crossmember with Tec7 spray and Waxoyl.

It is over a year since I plastered everything with my home - made mixture of Hammerite underbody seal and Tec7 and no rust has appeared except the bits I missed first time round.

I'm beginning to think that salt is the main culprit for rust. Where I live the roads hardly ever get gritted in Winter whereas my father-in- law's 90 (London) which is only a year older than mine is well rusty underneath

Well, today we 'put away' the last bits of summer, marked by the removal of the roof tent. The tent has only gone on once, put up there by 4 blokes at Trek Overland's place when they fitted it.

With only 2 of us at home to take the tent off it was a bit of thinking then a cunning plan was formed and put into operation.....

1. Parking the 90 near side on to the front of the 100", about 5m away.
2. Taking the bolts out of the sliders on bottom of the tent, loosening the universal mounts off, taking out other bolts and spacers as required.
3. Putting a strap from the roll cage near side, towards the front of the tent, down to one side of the tubular bumper of 100"
4. Putting another strap from the roll cage near side, towards back of the tent, then shackling that to payed out winch rope from the front winch on the 100"
5. Then Reversing the 100" to adjust tension on the two straps to form a sloping 'slide' from the top of the roll cage down towards the bumper of the 100"
6. Lifting the roof tent up a bit, removing the mounts, and sticking a few bits of thick card underneath to protect the top of the cage from being scratched and to reduce effort required to move it.
7. Placing a B&D Workmate bench under the 'slide' at about waist height
8. Pushing the tent from the off-side towards the near side, until it started to pivot over the edge of the top cage bars, steadying as necessary.
9. Gradually pushing the tent 'over the edge until fully on the 'slide' and gently lowering down until it sits on the workbench.
10. Stage 1 complete
11. From waist height, turning the tent off the bench to sit on end and then carrying into house!
12. Placement of tent against wall in Dining Room (otherwise know as 'General Storage Facility'!).

After that, it was time to put the snorkel on! Had it made by P&P to go with the cage and it has been propped up in the aforementioned GFS since March. Anyway, as it was I 'lost' the little black plastic wing cover somewhere between Knaresborough and York last week so it was a good time to get the snorkel put on at last, if nothing else put to cover the hole in the wing!

I think it looks rather smart!

Looks good Thumbs Up

Just as a quick note though........ Check the inside of the snorkel. When I got one from P&P it was full of swarf from the manufacturing process...... and the inside wasn't painted at allI like to think mine was the only one..... but best safe than sorry.
