2000 Defender 90 Td5 HT Epsom Green
Early Series Type Doors on Defender
I have a couple of questions which will be really simple for someone in the know.

I'm planning on moving to this style of door to give me more space (and because I like the look) and I want to make sure I get the right thing.

Is the door lock (Drivers Side) the same as that on the rear door? I have read about Antiburst locks but i'm not really sure what these are exactly and if that is the try I need. Etc

Any guidance?

not sure on the space issue as they fill the same hole in the same way!

its the tops that are expensive as you'd be best to get the ali double slders.

Tig up - You get more elbow room as there is no door card / wind down window

I used the rear door lock as the drivers side one on my Trayback

I'm happy to pay for some good door tops as the comparative cost to new wind up window doors is huge.

I am weighing up whether to go for Ashtree Galv bottoms with Rock Mountain tops or if I should get the whole lot from Rocky Mountain.

I have a pair of Rocky Mountain tops that I picked up on Ebay - very please with the quality - I haven't seen the Ashtree ones I'm afraid so can't comment - HTH

The drivers side lock unit isn't the same as the rear end safari door... I've just fitted a pair to the project90 i've got (using military split doors)

Although with some grinding/cutting, I suspect that the rear catch (not the lock that's on the door, but the cast iron bit that bolts to the bodywork frame) could be suitably bodgified to work on the front door.

Although for what they cost even new, I'd be inclined to use the proper one seeing as that is what stops you from falling out.

That is useful to know. I have no problem which buying the right thing. I just want to make sure I can set them all up with the same key!

I'm sorry, I thought you were talking about the 'keep', the bit that stays on the vehicle, not on the door - they are the same as the rear door and people use those because drivers side ones seem scarce for some reason

They're not the same. they are interchangeable, like I said, with some bodgification., but not the same... the rear one has the rubber buffer thing on it to stop the door from vibrating.

I hadn't realised that the strikers were different either! Just as well I didn't buy a pair of X-Trousers at the weekend!

Are the hole centres the same?
