It surely should be. I had once rust traces at all 4 door rubbers, luckily it had not relly spread to the body yet, but the dealer took care of it without discussion. You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

I have just emailed my local(ish) dealer to see what they think. I can't stand the idea of a 12/13 month old vehicle rusting already...

"to see what they think"
Don't be too nice with those guys. I have learned that the firm approach works much better. You confront them with the issue, put them with their nose on the facts, and all such rust is clearly covered by the factory rust warranty the first three years (thereafter it is only perforating rust til 6 years). Don't accept any half measures in your first three years. You can always complain to LR UK first, if that does not help to whatever you have in the UK as consumer organization. Or more, but hope you will not have to resort to that. Good luck You never actually own a Defender. The pictures look like the rear doors, so would be very different to you 90... Darren

Yes its the rear doors. From what I can see, the door compresses the seal too much and then rubs, ruining the seal and rubbing the paint off the panel. Wish it was galv, wouldn't be so worried then...

Yep, still useful to see what people have experienced though, as there seems to be some variation dealer to dealer. |

That's nothing to whats corroding away beneath your cappings Dan They will be rusty from new, hope you have treated them Bit of Ku-rust or similar e.g. ACF-50 on those rusty bits pictured, will take 5 mins, job done and put something between whats rubbing on the metal because the dealer won't and it will be back in again in 3 weeks time |

I can't see any rust on them. Do you mean the cappings themselves? Dealer can repaint them and give me some new seals I think (only right?) and then I'll see what I can do. Its just cack design yet again... |

90s tended to get galvanised sill members. 110 station wagons have the sill members as part of the larger sill/B/C pillar assembly (A.K.A. body side frame) which is not galvanised and rots like a ****! |

This may be a stupid question but what would happen to a bit of rust like that if it is kept clean and dry under sealant e.g. under stainless door sills. I read somewhere that it might keep rusting but it's hard to believe... Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |
