Thanks all.

Wow 3 batteries! You trying to run your own nuclur plant?

it's a 24v start - could run the accessories from the second batt but its needed for starting so want to be 100% safe due to what the vehicle is doing/where its going. the fridge would be fine off the second batt as it has the auto shut down but since it will be parked for days at a time and i'll need the fridge to be working i need the 3rd batt.

The trouble with using "light" cable is when you either forget, or someone else plugs something with a heavy current draw in, and melts it. Or the situation arises (somehow) that you need to use the second battery for something, and you think to yourself " Censored , wish i'd used bigger cable" Laughing

IMO better to do it once, properly.

yes, I plan to upgrade the cables to the aux fuse box as soon as I see my mate who is a marine electrical engineer who has all the right tools to do the crimping .. update with pics to follow.

You also need to be mindfull of the overall rating of the fuse box, i think its' either 50amps.

Use 16mm2 on your fuse box if you can and minimum of 35mm2 elsewhere, twist the arm of your marine engineer and get him to use tinned cable if he can which will be better still in a LR.

Somehow I do not think Mike is referring to a 24v FFR LR but to a Toyota LC.

At least Mike knows where to come to give/receive advice!

Hi

I used a Blue Sea controller with 50mm tinned cable - just in case Shocked I then stole BPman's setup (not literally Very Happy) and used 16mm to connect to the auxiliary fuse box.

All the best,

Please note that if you wish to use the BP mans method of putting in a fuse box then be careful what fuse box you buy.

There are at least two types of 12 gang fuse box with common negative bus bar. Yes they look very similar but whereas the Blue Sea one has a marginally smaller footprint it's overall height is about 1/2" or 12 mm less the other one commonly available.

If I remember I will measure both of them and post measurements up.

That'll be me then! Laughing Old auxilliary fusebox cables removed (by Steve) used as a pattern and 20mm2 replacements made. Thanks for the hospitality Steve, scones strawberry jam and clotted cream (can feel my arteries clogging as I type). Mrs Bpman does make a lovely cuppa! Loved the new place - bags of potential. First dibs on a dozen eggs when you get your chickens!

See you soon matey! Thumbs Up If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!!

So Blue Sea is 164 x 84 x 39mm

The non Blue Sea is 164 x 94 x 57 mm

So the Blue Sea is about 18 mm or 3/4" lower then it's rival.

not sure what you mean Tim, the fuse box in the photo is the aux fuse box, so far 12v sockets and bluesea controller wired up... NL 50l Weekender fridge, 40" LED bar, 4" LED work light bar to be added.

@K9F - thanks again for all your help ... see you for a beer soon Thumbs Up
