OEC quoted £650-800 for fitting........... They had never fitted a full external DC one before and at the end they realised that it took a little (OK, a lot) longer than planned, but stayed true to their word and only charged £800 (most places quoted £1500 minimum). I have a feeling that they would ask a bit more for the same cage next time.

Their service was awesome- very accommodating and when they removed a few things out from behind the rear seats (I forgot to check/ remove) they accidentally forgot to replace one of the spanners (Long reach 10mm). Before I even noticed it was gone it appeared through my letterbox with a nice letter- now that is an honest service- I think most places would have considered it a new tool to their collection!!

Foleys quoted £900 + VAT to fit an SD external cage to a Puma 110 ....

Nice looking cage there Merlin, does it have an internal roll bar too?, and yes Whitbread are awesome (they are just down the road from home)..... I would love to own their 'Thug' comp vehicle.

So does anyone know the answer to my other question - does a standard SD (or P&P) station wagon cage fit a DC with an IW canopy?

I know I could fit the DC type cage, but since I always have the canopy fitted and need something to hold up the Patriot rack, the SW type would suit me better.

If your IW canopy is the same width as the gutter on a standard SW then it must fit - mustn't it ?

Honestly? i know the guy was looking to sell it on as hes not used it much lately i can pass details on.

on the subject of cages - North Off Raod get my vote for functionality and performance, fitting, adaptability, good value for material used, tightness of fit. in that order. all elements are exceptional and better than my P&P cage i my opinion. Cheers

I forgot about North Offroad- they do some really nice looking stuff.......

I would love the Thug..... yes it is pig ugly (maybe that is why they named it that' but what a capable motor which you can use and abuse and it will still keep on motoring.

I wouldn't be able to justify the spend on it at the moment.......... plus like the idea of making something myself which I will know inside out.

Not quite that simple I'm afraid, the IW canopy is also 1.3/8" (or 35mm for you metric types) taller that the roof over its ribs, but the same level as the SW roof between the ribs. I don't think the shoulder width is an issue, but there may be a problem if the C or D hoops align with the canopy ribs.

Some careful measuring is called for, I think. If need be I reckon the ribs could be 'adjusted' and I am pretty sure it could be made to fit.

Scary fitting costs, on top of cage prices

. Devon 4x4 is the nearest to me, I guess. How much an hour do they charge? I need to tell my bank manager!

good job to as it's sat in my workshop with the front cut out of it!

i'll get some pics but the owner and I will be out in it on the 7/8th of july at the Scott Williams Memorial Challenge.

Could someone with a full SD expedition cage in a Puma 110 SW or DC (Glyn, perhaps) be kind enough to post (or PM) me a photo or two showing how the internal hoop fits in the vicinity of the front row seat backs.

I am trying to get my head around the extent to which the hoop either restricts the seat movement or intrudes into the 2nd row door aperture.

I'd be very grateful for any pics!

Had a few mins spare so here goes:

I am 6' and have broad shoulders. The top of the hoop never gets anywhere near my head. When sat in the seat as per the pictures (all the way back without mud rails etc. I have to push my shoulders back to touch the bar- Normally I sit in the seat and my arm/ shoulder touches the B-pillar.

As for Passenger area...... it doesn't touch it at all.

Many thanks, that is exactly what I was after! I will have another look at mine, what was puzzling is that there isn't even enough room for me to get my fingers between the seat back and the "B" post. I presume that you haven't moved your seats inboard at any stage?
