Thanks for the brilliant info, especially the article. WON'T be installing one of those then Aren't Terrafirma a pretty good company? Seems strange they would be distributing them Time to explore other options... Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

Most of the time the fluid will freeze in the pipe or nozzle, not the bottle. So if you remove the one way gave in the line, the fluid will just run back to the bottle, so remains unfrozen. Just will take longer to get spray to the windscreen. I understand that you don't get the defrosting properties, but heated screens are made for that.

Got one of these fitted in my Patrol and it works really well, that having been said it is true that the water tends to freeze in the pipes before it gets to the jets.
There were lots of questions when it was released about whether windscreens could crack and I seem to remember seeing an article that explained about the surface area and heat dissipation that suggested it would be impossible to crack a screen. I installed it as far up the system as I could and whilst it might initially take a while to work its way through frozen pipes it does seem to clear them. I haven't fitted one in my Defender though because of the heated screen, although there is something very satisfying about watching steaming hot water thrown across the windscreen and clearing the ice in a few seconds. |

Just fitted mine... almost upside down
Lovely warm water cleans a grubby/buggy screen beautifully Now I'm eager to test it in Winter... but let's have Summer first, shall we? No fires yet but I've got an extinguisher in the cab, just in case Tell someone you love them today because life is short. £150!! Another option: Route the washer pipe along side coolant pipes and use copper to attach it (good heat conductor). Use a good quality additive to the washer fluid- makes one hell of a difference.... even with heated water- if you hit about -20 to -30 the water in the pipe/ nozzle will freeze and heater or not it won't defrost it for a while. use 8mm nylon and wrap it around in a spiral fasion.
you can use 8-10mm microbore copper aswell by you'll need compression fittings where as with nylon you can use push fit connectors |

Always do that anyway with Winter and Summer-additives (really surprised some people don't). However, even the best Winter additive-fluid goes "goopy" at -15 and below I like your elegant solution, although I guess the engine would have to warm up a bit in Winter before it would work? Certainly great once going - might do it as well For the extreme conditions I'm looking for, I'm pretty sure the Heat Shot will clear the screen of ice immediately at -20 and stop the "goop problem" on the autobahn... Cheers Matt p.s. changed my mind after talking to suppliers and checking out the more recent info - the number of actual failures, even of the original versions, were tiny (it's even in question whether just GM's wiring was at fault). See: http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2010/06/h...re-fiasco/ ... also I'm just curious p.p.s. I'll let you all know if I regret my decision and die... er, forget that last bit Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
