F****ng bank holiday traffic, It took me 7 1/2 hrs to get home to Newton Abbot from Cambridge last night, and no i did not sit in the nightmare they call the M4/M5 interchange, I headed south early. Cambridge was very busy A428 not to bad A1 was chokker Milton Keynes every roundabout was slow Buckingham was a joke Bicester ok then A34 south to Oxford solid A420 very slow Swindon ring road terrible so i shot through the middle M4 very very busy but moving, signs and radio were saying long delays M5 south at Bristol so A350 A361 and A37 south to Yeovile then A303 A30 was hideous M5 was ok at Exeter as was the A380 but thats a 4hr journey MAX If everything is under control you are not going fast enough.

I drove to radstock to see a fabricator and back, traffic heavy but mainly grannies in VW Polos, flat out at an eye watering 38mph

well if you're incapable of driving at the designated speed limit for a particular road because you're too scared, too old, too stubborn (usually all three actually) then you should incur a similar penalty to speeders.
Only once in my entire life have I seen the cops pull over an old man trundling along at 30 with a massive tailback for failing to make adequate progress |

I don't see it as being old people that always do it it isn't always but often yes. Main reason is people are always scared of cameras no doubt. As for when you say about too scared I agree there is too many people that say they hate it and what not or scared yet they still do it I swear to just show well I can drive and their driving is so poor and they talk to much about it all the What if? talk. To my mind you either drive or you don't simple as if people don't like it don't drive. I don't always like all aspects of driving especailly when it's busy but other than that and queing which no one likes I enjoy it. Especially on open roads or dual carriage ways where you can open the taps up (with in reason) |

But generally there isn't a minimum speed limit, only a maximum so you couldn't penalise anyone for driving under the maximum. Maybe the traffic would allow you to drive at 30mph round town - who would you prosecute - the guy at the red light at the front of the queue? yes I know - its just that its a grumpy old man thread which suggests cold logic and reason are cast away in favour of subjective whinging so I'm just having a moan !

This maximum depends on vehicle being driven, the road classification and in sometimes variable limits etc. However it is possible to be prosecuted for driving at less then the designated speed limit without due cause. A possible offence would be driving without due care and consideration. Even driving at the designated speed limit can lead to prosecution. Drive'rs excuse of driving at the speed limit was not acceptable and did not override the principle in the UK that you drive on the left unless overtaking! A car capable of driving at 70mph crawling along lane 1 on a UK motorway at 40 mph when the national speed limit of 70 mph applies without due cause could be prosecuted if no obvious reasons for driving slow was apparent. Oh yes the gum thing, how can you concentrate on a conversation with someone who is just masticating in front of you? I find it so damned irritating, it's talking whilst eating, talking with your mouth full, just so bl**dy impolite.
On the subject of slow traffic it is actually an offence to let livestock linger on a highway i.e. when moving animals down the road they must be making a forward movement as a group, the herd or flock must move along the road at a walking pace or otherwise you are causing an obstruction and can be taken to task over it. . |

God I hate that - only had to slap my kids once and they never did it again. One of those "no warning" offences requiring swift and painful action Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

15 year old son driving me mental. He has such talent, is nice looking and I love him so; but he is so laid back, doesn't want us involved in his sporting life, yet without our fetching and carrying and finance and guidance it will all go to pot. I don't want him to miss the opportunities he is getting from sponsors. AHHHHHHHHHH if only I could wind his clock forward twenty years he would realise why we want to guide him
