I had an ashcroft gear set installed into my 110 td5, it was one of the best mods ever, much much quieter and a little more fuel friendly.

Do you get the same effect by swapping out the Defender TC for a Discovery TC, and how would the change in gearing effect the towing ability of a loaded Defender? 1999 Defender TD5 110

We towed a heavy trailer with it and it was fine - mine also had a Dastek chip and a bigger intercooler.

The Ashcroft conversion just swops the high ratios and leaves low range as standard Defender - a complete Disco box swop would give you Disco low range ratios as well. John

Disco low range is the same as defender... all the LT230 t/boxes have the same low range gearing.

I've got one on my 110. pulls great, although sometimes hillstarts need a bit of clutch slipping... and if i've got my 255/85s on, then I usually slip into low range 2nd to pull away on steep ones.
