Willem, each to their own, but I think every 10k for the diffs etc is overdoing it. LR recommend 80k for diffs and t box, and 160k for g box. I've decided to cut that in half, as well as replacing air filters and fuel filters every 20k.

I agree, 40k for diff/t-box and 80K for gearbox sounds good. --

Willem,

Maybe we can do the oil changes together? I'm a mech n00b but would like to start doing these things myself.

Nice bottles of red for you Thumbs Up --

Naks, what engine oil (other than the OEM stuff - which is Castrol Magnatec Proff. 5w-30 A1 - I think) would be suitable for South African conditions? Or should I just go to the stealers and buy the OEM oil in an 5l container?

Any oil that conforms to Ford WSS-M2C-913C spec will do. This is the information that I have gathered online about the oils meeting the Ford spec WSS-M2C-913C:

From Opie Oils - list of WSS-M2C-913C oils

Agip Formula ECO FO

Caltex Havoline Energy 5w30

Fuchs Titan Supersyn F 5w30

LiquiMoly Leichtlauf Special F 5W-30

Mobil Super 3000 X1 Formula FE 5W-30

Motul 8100 Eco-Nergy 5w30

Penrite HPR Diesel 5w40 (only conforms to M2C-913-A/B )

Shell Helix Ultra AF 5W-30

Unfortunately for us, other than the LiquiMoly, none of them are available in SA (last time I checked was in Oct 2010).

Willem, I have bought the Castrol from Lube Marketing in Paarden Eiland - 021 511 0574. It comes in a box of 12x1L, cost was R700 2 yrs ago. --

Also, on my 2011 Puma there is a supplement page added into the handbook headed
Diesel Engine Oil Specifications and for Defender it lists-5W/30-WSS-M2C913-B Only.
In high sulphur markets use WSS-M2C921-A.
Can post it up if you want to see it.
